Media: Serenity and so on

Serenity Rawked. Oh, there were bits I didn't like, and things I wish they hadn't done, but in all, it was just awesome. Sadly, no one has posted any interesting spoilers on my friends list for the discussion of the movie, and I'm apparently not going to break that trend.

According to this website, Serenity was second at the box office for Friday, its first day -- 200,000 behind Flight Plan. Not bad.

Changes

Five years ago to this day, I left my ex-husband with the help of the amazing and compassionate bluedaisy to hold my hand. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

It is difficult to believe it has been this long. It is hard to comprehend the chasm between who I was then, where I was then, and who I am now, and where I am now.

Words cannot express how grateful I was in the ensuing months for the many kindnesses people showed me, sometimes even strangers. People I barely knew reached out to me, people I knew well supported me, and I came to realize just how caring and good people can be. I weep that some of that idealism has since been destroyed, but I hope that ultimately, it returns tempered and more realistic.

Thank you, people. Thank you for reaching out to people in need. Thank you for being there for me and others. Thank you for being compassionate and caring. Don't ever stop.
