Wow, Buffy Season 3 rocks. In particular: you were all right. Vampire Willow is teh hawtness.

I just finished reading a book called Blood Price by Tanya Huff. I liked it, but I was also unimpressed by large swathes of the writing style. I'm wondering if anyone has read it AND her other work, and can comment on how it compares with her other works.

I guess I'm having a Vampire-y week.

Work on the laptop continues apace.

Today I am lusting after Velvet Goldmine's Brian Slade, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

It's a fantastical movie about glam rock, aliens, and bisexuality, loosely based on the life of David Bowie. The IMDB page.

You've heard me say that I seem to have a thing about gender roles, that I want my men to be masculine, and my women to be feminine. The character Brian Slade breaks that for me. I want him, intensely.

In particular, the scenes from the song "Hot One" get me all riled up. Check these pictures out, and tell me you don't want some of that!
http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/3225/Velvet/brianhotone.html

In particular, the pictures towards the bottom... the umbrella, the top hat, the pin striped suit, the glam outfit with the pink powdered wig. So hot!

I wish I understood why this is hot to me, but your average flame-y boy is not. I think there IS a difference. But what is it?

Too funny

yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] journalists:
You all probably get your share of e-mailed press releases. This morning I found this message in my inbox from a PR flack:

Dear Editor,

If you do not cover on the Internet, please feel free to ignore this email. However, if your beat includes the Web, you may find the below link to Chevy's site worth your time. Chevy is running a contest to create the best online commercial for their Tahoe SUV and apparently, they haven't gotten around to screening all of their entries yet.

No, it's not dirty. But it is nice to see a large, environmentally irresponsible corporation get knocked down a peg from the inside.

All I can say is: Click on that link before it vanishes, and have a morning chuckle on GM.

George Lucas in Love

Really, go visit it. It's great. Hilarious, and very very well done.

Today I was in an excellent mood, albeit somewhat slow-witted. I worked pretty much all day, but didn't get much done because I was banging my head against a stubborn article.

However, circumstances did conspire to bring me and [livejournal.com profile] pyat and [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage to the theatre to see Harry Potter -- given the lack of response to my posts to LJ, I'd begun to think I would have to go see it on my own!

This way lay spoilers )

I have good fun to look forward to this weekend AND the next. And as always, the poly social on Monday. Life is good!

I recently finished reading:
-The New Glucose Revolution Guide to Living Well with PCOS; I definitely recommend it to anyone who has this syndrome
-A Wizard Alone, the sixth fabulous installment in the wizardly world of Diane Duane

I am in the middle of reading:
-The Gentle Art of Verbal Self Defense
-Story of O
-The Courtesans

I am about to reread, in preparation for the November 8 release of A Feast for Crows (the new book in the series):
-A Game of Thrones
-A Clash of Kings
-A Storm of Swords

Arguably, this series is where I subconsciously got the idea for my name from, as there is a character named Danaerys in it. I strongly recommend this series, btw, to all afficionados of epic fantasy. It is widely acclaimed, and for good reason.

I also have a few books lying around which I will get around to eventually: Napoleon Bonaparte (a biography), Market Forces by Richard Morgan, Blood Price by Tanya Huff, and another Guy Gavriel Kay which I have yet to read.

And books I intend to purchase in the not so distant future:
Diane Duane's Wizards Holiday, and possibly Wizards at War, though I may wait to get that until it comes out in paperback. I LOVE THIS SERIES, and have since I was young. It's aimed at Young Adults, so if you have kids in that age range who would like urban fantasy, consider it strongly.

Also, in the movie category:
Nov 11 - Rent, the movie
Nov 18 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Dec 9 - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

An excited YES! to all three.

For those of you who are Firefly fans, planning on doing a marathon of some sort in the month leading up to Serenity's release on September 30th, I present to you a link to some "Firefly drinking games"

http://www.southeastusa.net/firefly/Firefly_Drinking_Game.html

Of course, this was designed before the series ended, for watching one episode at a time. Clearly, a revised version would be better for a twelve hour marathon. Clearly.

In all seriousness, I'm a lightweight; I couldn't pull off any but the simplest, wussiest drinking games without things getting ugly. These games amuse me more for the silly factor than for the actual drinking/drunk factor. And they help to make it more participatory, kinda like Rocky Horror.

If you are ultra-sensitive to spoilers, do not read behind the cut. However, if you don't mind information about a character which doesn't give away any of the plots, click away!

What I was delighted, as the kinky slutty naughty girl I am, to see on Dr. Who )
