danaeris: (Whome?)
My apartment is 6'2" - 6'3" (74-75") in height except in a few places (like the entrance to the bathroom, where it is lower). According to this website, I needn't worry... people who couldn't stand in my apartment are pretty unusual. But, what matters are my friends, and not general statistics. So, tell me, how tall are you?

[Poll #670741]

Yes, I am silly. So sue me! :)

Found the box of kitchen stuff, and my parents seem to have decided they have kitchen stuff for me after all.

What I've got )

NEEDED
kitchen knives
dry measuring cups
measuring spoons
cuisinart
wooden spoons, spatulas
mixing bowls
whisk
garbage can

What else does a kitchen need? My counters are essentially giant cutting boards, so I don't need those necessarily.

Been super angsty today. So, an early bed time and tomorrow, I will spend every spare moment working my butt off on the press releases. Eep! I'm angry that I procrastinated so long, but this has been a weird time in my life, so I guess I should cut myself SOME slack. Once I get back from St. Louis, it will really be time for the beginning of my new life in TO. Once I've got my apartment in order and I'm caught up on volunteer obligations, I can get cracking on better care for my own health, and the next few steps in my career.

Hopefully, also, the back pain will recede. *crosses fingers*

Wow, what a weekend!

Friday evening I got to see The Cute One, [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage, and [livejournal.com profile] etherlad and [livejournal.com profile] sassy_fae along with their brand new house. It's super cute and kitschy in the good way, and quite nice and spacious. :)

Afterward I went home and got stuff done.

Saturday with the help of [livejournal.com profile] will279802 and [livejournal.com profile] rbowspryte I moved one carload of stuff from Hamilton to Hobbiton, unloaded, and then went shopping. We looked at a lot of stuff, but ultimately only bought a very space-efficient table from Ikea, the Laurila, a gateleg table that expands to fit four comfortably, and otherwise fits two. It also has a convenient shelf, and is made of real wood such that I can always sand it down and refinish it to match other stuff. Yay! I love my new table -- it's so practical! We also scoped out the bookshelf system I plan to invest in for the apartment. It will be expensive, but worthwhile, and I can hardly wait to have all of my books out on display. *bounce*

By the by, while we were at Ikea we saw my whole kitchen, except the fridge and stove. *amused* We also saw the curtain rods and clips. I guess my landlady is an Ikea kinda gal.

After assembling the table, unpacking some of the bathroom stuff, and cleaning the bathroom, we got glammed up and headed to TOKink. I saw a number of wonderful people I haven't seen in a while there, and got to do my first scene with [livejournal.com profile] knotty_mark! yay! It was really lovely and followed by the sort of activities you might expect upon returning to his place.

Of course, then I didn't get to sleep until about 5:30 a.m.

This morning I woke up at 11, got harrassed some more, and then dropped off at PI, where my wonderful sweeties had saved two homemade pancakes for me for breakfast. Yay! We drove to Hamilton, loaded up the truck, and brought it back to the apartment.

To get the loveseat in, we had to remove the front door, but it DID fit in eventually, thank goddess. Anyway, we mopped the floor in the bedroom, bought and assembled a basic bed frame, and moved the rest of the bedroom furniture in (including the carpet).

It looks FABULOUS. I'm very excited... I think this is going to be a great "pad." :)

The bad news: Several of the floors are uneven or sloped, so that furniture isn't quite stable. Also, the walls meet the floor at a bizarre angle, and on most of the walls wood ledges 6" out from the wall and about 1-6" tall were built to cover this up. In most cases, this can be compensated for, but until I do what's necessary to compensate, it'll be a real nuisance in terms of maximizing the space.

The good news: In his sock feet, [livejournal.com profile] knotty_mark can stand with his head brushing the ceiling in most of the common space, and without his head touching the ceiling in the bedroom. The day is saved! Yay! This was a HUGE relief, given that my biggest concern regarding this apartment was the height of the ceilings. Also, it is a great comfort to me to be able to say that everyone who has seen the place has had positive things to say about it. I don't know if I got a Good Deal or not. I think I did, but it's hard to tell. Eithe way, I'm happy with what I got.

Remaining to be moved:
-massive filing cabinet of DOOM
-mattress and boxspring
-toybox
-a microwave (buy or move)
-odds and ends which I don't want to move until the last minute, including delicate items like framed pictures

After that, it's just unpacking and organizing and shopping for household stuff (yay decorating!) with the help of my generous friends and sweeties.
