Looks like I'm visiting Seattle for the AAAS seminar Feb. 12th-17th (crashing at a friend's place the 12th and 16th). Anyone in the area want to get together?

Anyone know someone who is going who I should meet, or who might want a roommate for hotel rooming?

Tickets are only $150ish. ;p

Edit: You can read more about the AAAS seminar by going to www.aaas.org and clicking on "annual meeting" across the top. It has a score of really nifty events, but registration is expensive. There is a slim but real possibility that I could get you a press pass as my "photographer."

overnight the prices on tickets to Seattle doubled on travelocity. Anyone know somewhere else that might have cheap tickets?

Anyone know local car rental places that will rent cars to people under 25?

Nevermind!

Priceline rescued me.

By leaving Friday morning at 7 am instead of Thursday evening after school, I got the same price through priceline that I saw on travelocity yesterday. :)

Now I have to solve the hotel plot. The priceline area looks awfully large, and I have no idea what to bid.

My first priceline bids for a 4* downtown Seattle hotel Feb 13-17, $65/night
and my subsequent bid for Feb 13-16, $75/night were both rejected. That means I can't rebid for three days!

So my options:
(1) Call all of the convention hotels and see if they are available still at convention rates, which start at $139. 2/6 are already not available as such.
(2) Stay at the Green Tortoise Hostel, which is about 5 blocks away for ~$50/night; problem is that they may be loud with all the young folk staying there, and they may not have any rooms available the night of Feb. 14
(3) Fork out the dough for a full price hotel (ick!)

Wee!

But I have plane tickets, so all I need is hotelly goodness and a letter from the old internship that will get me the press pass.

I have no idea what I'll do the extra days in town. [livejournal.com profile] catling won't be around and I don't know the other Seattle Leri folk all that well though I wouldn't object to seeing them. And then there's the folk in Portland... but dunno if they could drive up to visit me. If I end up crashing with Leri folk, hopefully they can get me to downtown to be touristy or maybe just to socialize. If I don't, I'll already be downtown and worst case, I'll wander around alone and think about Stuff.

It's not too late for someone to decide to also visit seattle and keep me company. Don't have to go to the conference with me but splitting a room is good. :)

I have a hotel room for Friday-Tuesday for $120/night in a nice hotel about 5 blocks from the convention, and plane tickets for $155.

My total cost is looking like about $750. I'm debating looking for a roommate to decrease that; if I could split the room with someone for the weekend, it would decrease my expenses to more like $450. For a 5 day vacation in a nifty place, that's not bad, nor, honestly, is the $750.

I honestly doubt that I'll find anyone to sleep with or want to sleep with anyone, so that isn't a reason to not get a roommate. On the other hand, I'm a little nervous about finding a roommate who would steal my stuff, which is probably paranoid. If I did find a roommate, it would be a colleague journalist. How likely is it for a fellow professional to steal my stuff? Honestly, opinions on this one are MORE than welcome.

Also, check in is at 3 and check out is at noon, which leaves me some time both days with luggage and nowhere to put it. Will hotels hold your luggage for you in situations like that?
