Jun. 7th, 2006 11:16 amTonight is the pub night for the Canadian Science Writer's Association here in Toronto. I was told to look for the scruffy looking group, and that business attire is not necessary.
I'm figuring on wearing my new tan cargo pants, and a t-shirt. But which one? Some of them could be too arrogant, or braggy, but maybe that's what I should be doing. I don't know!

Date: 2006-06-07 03:59 pm (UTC)For example, to an outside observer, MIT shirts say either "bragging" or "wannabe" or "stuck in my college past." SPAMIT says all of that plus "I don't consider myself as smart as other MIT folks." CASW probably says "I like advocacy more than my actual work." Geek HTML shirt probably says "I am a drone who just barely managed to master web page design." "I <3 geeks" probably says "I am some sort of geek swinger who isn't really serious about my work."
Not only is WIRED neutral in this respect, but it might also spark some conversation about your work with WIRED. I think that it would be ideal for networking.
Also, tighter shirts are cuter than baggy ones, and as long as the message isn't too provocative, it should work to your advantage. :)
