San Francisco in a year!
Feb. 17th, 2006 11:29 pmGood news! AAAS is in San Fran next year. Yay!
February 15-19. I'm thinking I could arrive a week early or leave a week late and make up for lost visit time!
I haven't missed a AAAS since 2003 (I was at 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006), so you can be sure I won't miss this. And by then I'm hoping to be a math media fellow at Fields, so traveling to something like this will be not only okay, but expected.
Hm, flying on Air Canada buying even this far in advance looks to be about $600 including taxes and fees.
On the other hand, if I can get my butt to Buffalo, there are round-trip tickets for as little as $193 USD, but these are not direct flights. Coach Canada has round trip tickets from TO to Buffalo for about $50, so this would come to about $295 CAD plus the cost to get from Coach Canada's stop to the airport if it isn't at the airport, and lead to a whole day spent traveling, as opposed to ~4 hours on one flight. While working at COPA, a workday is worth ~$100 to me. As a freelance, my time is theoretically worth $75/hour, but then again, I can work while traveling, so long transit times are not a problem.
Any wisdom on buying plane tickets way in advance? Should I wait for some magical sale, or is it best to buy as far in advance as possible? I seem to be getting the same fares when I look at similar flight dates this May as opposed to next winter.
