The apartment is in a long, thin row house, in the basement, on Dufferin about 3 minutes north of Bloor.

You enter, and there is a vestibule with hooks and very new-looking washer and dryer. This area is shared with the landlady so that she can do laundry.

Then you go through the next door, and enter my apartment. You're in the main room, which is long and thin. First comes the kitchen, which is mostly new appliances, and really nice carts instead of built-in counter space. But, I like the flexibility of the carts.

Past the kitchen area, on the left, there is an entrance to a huge walk-in storage area, with polls for hanging clothing, and iirc, also some shelf-space.

Further along the main room is the restroom which is nice and clean and has a bath tub. I don't remember much else about it.

At the end of this long main room is the door into the bedroom, which is also a good size. on the left in the bedroom is a door to the outside, where there is a concrete patio that the landlady sets aside for my use.

According to my measurements from the inside, the place was 300 square feet without counting the patio, bathroom, or big storage room -- by far the biggest apartment I've visited so far, even though all but one were in the same price ballpark. The floors were tile, and the walls in the kitchen were a really nice shade of red. The bedroom was white, but I plan to paint at least one of the walls.

The upstairs is occupied by the landlady. She is a young, single Australian woman who travels a lot and self-describes as a gypsy. She seems really cool to me. She doesn't mind if I have a cat.

The apartment was advertised as having a sound-proof ceiling. ;)

I own:
1 dresser I'm not done fixing up
1 so-so TV stand
1 really nice wood end table/nightstand
1 nice wood end table/nightstand
1 full size sofa if I want it from my parents
1 matching love seat if I want it from my parents
1 tall ikea-style bookcase (ie. very light; I can carry it myself)
1 massive filing cabinet (would be interested in trading it for a smaller one since I'm only using one drawer right now)
1 toy chest, matching the nice but not the really nice nightstand

I can borrow, until my brother gets back:
1 matching nice wood end table/nightstand
1 full sized mattress and boxspring
1 dresser
1 13" TV
1 DVD player
1 large round kitchen table and four matching chairs (may be a little big for this apartment)
1 nicer entertainment stand

I figure with a good contingent of vehicles, this could be done in short order without too much hard work, or too many trips back and forth... and without renting a truck.

I'm not sure about the couches though. On the one hand, they are in relatively good shape, and they are free. On the other hand, I'd really prefer to get something that could sleep guests -- a really soft couch futon, or a couch bed. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Happy dance!!

A good quality couch doesn't usually come FREE. Take it! Full size sofas are fine to sleep on, and nicer to sit on than futons. You can always put out an air mattress for extra guests.

I second this - you can keep it while leisurely looking for something that fits your needs better. Also, I prefer air mattresses to many sofa beds which don't really have a mattress worth the name. Futons do work (I like them) but many people find them uncomfortable.

It sounds really nice. Free laundry is a really nice extra and access to the outside. Congrats. I am very excited for you.

I'm pretty familiar with the area.
As for coming back...it's still gonna be a while. But I did post some pictures from the snowboarding trip. I'm having plenty of fun overseas. Good luck on moving, it's always a bitch to do.

I'm really happy that you finally have a place *bouncing*

how massive is your filing cabinet, maybe we can trade you for our smaller one?

I know your not partial to them but we do have those lamps from our bedroom you can have if you want them(until you get replacements), we also have a tall bookcase available and a free standing white lamp you can have if you want them.

do you need any handy-man help to get the apartment to the way you want it?

lots of hugs and kisses

The filing cabinet is a tall four drawer cabinet. I need to see how everything fits into the new place, I think, before I decide what to do with it. I might end up filling the drawers after all.

I could TOTALLY use the white floor lamp and book case.

I'm sure there will be plenty of, uh, 'handy' work for you to do around the apartment, too. *wicked grin*
