I kept on saying I wanted to do this myself, but I've decided that my attention (and stress levels) are better expended elsewhere.
Across the top: At the far left a spiral galaxy. One of the arms feeds to the right and magnifies into a large swoosh which forms the top banner for the page. On the swoosh, in contrasting colour, would be my given name in large print, and then underneath in slightly smaller print, "Science Writer." If you really think this would be too busy, or look crappy, please let me know. I'm open to other ideas.
In a column down the left of the page, the approximate width of the spiral galaxy at the top banner, would be the links to the different sections of the page. For now, the sections might be "resume," "biography," and "articles." This would be followed with contact information and an "email the author" link.
The buttons would be attractive graphically, but relatively simple -- maybe even just text on background colour of choice, in a rectangular shape. And, the section you're in would be highlighted somehow. (perhaps the ones you're not in would be white on black, and the one you're in, and the body of the page, would be black on white)
I really like this banner:

This banner is also neat:

Date: 2005-10-17 02:19 am (UTC)On one hand, I should take this on as it would be good practice for me. OTOH, I usually do the coding for Dynamic web sites and so I don't have so much experience with the fancy graphics... Hence why it would be good practice for me.
We can talk more when I'm back on the same continent!
