So I've been trying to log my food intake, but the more I learn the more things I feel I need to be logging, and doing it manually is just ridiculous. So, I'm looking at possible alternatives; websites, software, etc.

http://www.nutritiondata.com looks like it might work well. My big concern is that it recognizes you by cookie, which expires once a year. I don't entirely understand the way cookies work, but is it possible to use this system without it being a security problem?

I'm also wondering if anyone has a website they use.

Health is about more factors than I can reasonably log by hand. For instance, omega-3 fatty oils are good for me, but... getting them over the course of a week and monitoring that is tough.

I just write things down, and don't count, so I just use a second LJ account.

I've heard really good things about FitDay.com.

I use (or have used - I've fallen out of the habit) a piece of Palm-based software called "BalanceLog" from a company called Healthetech (http://www.healthetech.com/). I'm not sure it does things like omega-3s, but it does keep track of calories, fat, fibre, and the basic vitamins and minerals. It's quite customizable, too.

It's nice, because if you've always got your Palm with you, you can always add things to it.

Generally cookies are stored on your machine, and they are usually only used to identify you to the server. You could always go look to see what the cookie is storing if you were concerned.

I used FitDay.com for several years, but switched a few months ago to a palm based program - Calorie King's Diet Diary. [livejournal.com profile] princeofwands and I looked at lots of apps before choosing this one, and chose this because it has the biggest database of foods (including lots of restaurants and such).
