So, this morning my mother was already awake when I went to get breakfast.

She apologized for her tactlessness and timing, which was certainly helpful.

Even before she did so, however, I realized this: If everyone's reaction to intolerance or closed-mindedness or ignorance was to run away, hide, and live in a bubble, then those attitudes will never change. If I want my parents to be more... enlightened... I'll have to learn to discuss these things calmly with them and continue to expose them to my ideas. If I simply cut them out of my life, their attitudes are unlikely to change, and if they did, it would probably be for the wrong reasons.

I had a very pleasant and productive day yesterday, and today looks fun and promising as well. The office is awfully empty given the long weekend, and people are likely to leave early. I just need to get that newsletter prepped, and then I'll be free this weekend to enjoy myself, and deal with my own stuff. And, this evening, we are having a mini bachelorette. We're going to hang out, get tipsy, eat lots of ice cream and chocolate, and watch girly movies. It'll be great!

It'll be great, it'll be awesome! We can dance and sing at the top of our lungs and scare the little dog next door! *giggles*

I'm glad she apologized, definitely a step in the right direction, eh?
