Next weekend Space is airing the two part miniseries of EarthSea, adapted from Ursula K LeGuinn's books. Anyone have any idea if they're going to be any good? The reviews on IMDB are pretty bad... :(

It sucks. In general, it seems as if all the money was spent on sets and effects, and none of it on writing or acting.

If you're a fan of (or even just passingly familiar with) the novels on which the miniseries is (theoretically) based, it is a travesty as well as a bad film.

If you've read the books, put them out of your mind.

Settle back and watch the pretty people run around with barely a plot to make them run around with.

Take a look at Ursula's own comments on the miniseries. They say all you really need to know.

well, it *is* very pretty.

It's pretty, that's about it.

The best thing I can say about it is that it inspired my son to read the books. :-)

The last time I read the books, it was in 7th grade. That being said, I enjoyed the movies. I remember just about absolutely nothing about the books, other than something about a boat, but that could have been easily misremembered from Old Man and The Sea.
It was nice and fluffy, and not horribly difficult to sit through for that amount of time.
