  • I am looking into taking courses in french, sewing, fiction, and more at the local community college

  • I am aiming to buy a Toyota Echo from sometime between 2000 and 2005, as soon as I have a local license. I'll be buying used from a dealer, complete with warranty et. al. Based on preliminary price checks, this will run me about 10-16K CAD

  • Bioré strips rock my world

  • Cetaphil is also the facial soap for me. Noticeably softer skin, yet no irritation and hardly any drying.

  • My hair is still sad

  • I'm looking into how admissions, funding, etc. tie together in Ontario's university system, but I'm having trouble finding statistics to confirm or refute my suspicions. This may turn into an op ed, or an article, or simply an LJ post, but not until I find those damn statistics

  • I believe I'm hoping to head into the city this weekend so I can hit [livejournal.com profile] tormenta and [livejournal.com profile] wulfram's party Saturday, and the poly brunch Sunday, heading back to Hamilton in time for the women's bath house if I'm still up for more fun. Anyone interested in lunch, dinner, breakfast, or offering crash space? This will likely be featured in its own entry shortly.

  • ceci n'est pas un mot.

I got here from [livejournal.com profile] kaidevis's friends page.

If you want to know about undergrad admissions, the administration of applications to Ontario universities is centralized in an organization called OUAC. They have stats on their webpage here: http://www.ouac.on.ca/news/news.html (overall stats)
and http://www.ouac.on.ca/info/programs_of_study.html (how many applied to each program, how many are admitted, what the prerequisites are, etc.)

Grad school admission is somewhat different, and depends a lot on the university, and on the individual departments and profs.

Hi! I appreciate the pointer, although I was already aware of OUAC, being an Ontario native. The stats I'm having trouble getting my hands on is how many students graduated from Ontario secondary schools each year. It would put things in perspective, especially if OUAC separates Ontario applicants from out of province applicants.

But hey, if you can pull that detail out of your sleeve too, I will bow to your stastistic-finding skills. I didn't look too hard, but my initial queries drew a blank. Or, that is, I found the statistics I want, but only for up to 1995. I need the numbers for 1995-present to say anything meaningful about the current state of things. :(

Do you know [livejournal.com profile] kaidevis? If so, small world! Nice to meet you!

There has been a lot of discussion of this in the last few years because of the double cohort (which you might have missed because you were in California...at least I get the impression that's where you were for a few years, from some previous memory of reading your livejournal. I don't read it all of the time, just occasionally it catches my eye on [livejournal.com profile] kaidevis's friends page.) You can get some info along these lines by typing "double cohort" into Google, for example this report http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/reports/cohortph2.pdf which says that 116 000 people graduated from Ontario high schools in 2000. The "double cohort" refers to the fact that the Ontario provincial government changed the high school curriculum so that it is completed in 4 years instead of 5. This meant that there was one year, 2003, when twice as many students were all graduating at the same time. Also, because of demographics, the number of highschool-aged people is increasing, and by 2008 about the same number of people will applying to university as in the double cohort year 2003.

There are also some stats available at the Council of Ontario Universities website: http://www.cou.on.ca/

I don't know [livejournal.com profile] kaidevis in person, I just like reading his livejournal.

Doubly thanks for the pointer (no pun intended). Even if I can't find original stat sources, these many papers about double cohorts may help me track down stat resources. :)

No problem. It's a topic I happened to know a little about.

Look forward to meeting you at the party on Saturday!

There are ways to convince me to offer you crash space...

Oh my! ;)

BTW, I'll likely be getting into town before the party, possibly as early as Friday evening, if you'd like to get together to hang out. :)
