The trouble with politics
May. 2nd, 2005 11:23 pmOccasionally I go on short forays into the land of politics in an attempt to scout the terrain.
cos pointed out to me that to make democracy work for you, you must identify the party which lies closest to your own ideals, and then join it. Then, you should work from within to bring about change in the direction which seems right to you.
I think the problem is that while I have a relatively firm grasp on my ideas regarding social policy, I don't know enough about financial policy, military policy, foreign policy, etc. to know what to believe in those respects.
Until I understand those things better, I don't think I can really make any decisions about which party is close enough to my ideals. But where to start? It's enough to make my head spin.

You'll have a chance to vote this year again though, too. Looks like there will be an election in June, with some confidence hearning or something in 2 weeks.
