Well, shit

Um. I just sat down on the corner of my futon bed. And it broke.

Um. Yeah. That's just great.

I know my mother will be pissy at me about it, but it's not like I've done anything to it that should have broken it -- even if it had primarily been being used as a couch, the same thing could have happened. All I did was sit down on it. A bit hard. But nonetheless, I don't jump up and down on it, and I don't have sex on it. It shouldn't be breaking!

Argh. What now?

Have sex on the futon, and then claim that's how it broke?

Those frames aren't very sturdy. Usually they're the cheapest part. And in all likelihood a futon shop could order you a new part for JUST the part that broke.

Reinforcement

What part of the futon broke? Could you take a picture?

We had a problem with our futon last year and a couple of trips to Home Depot and it was not only right as rain, but reinforced for the fact that we and quite a few of our friends fall under the more than plus-size category.

I've broken two futons by being, er, playful with someone.

Spare wood (ha ha), a drill/screwdriver, good long screws (ha ha ha), and carpenters glue can make for a good fix. (just loaded with puns today...)

Bonus points if you can let it cure upside down under load to make it into a pre-stressed structure.
