The last few days
Mar. 7th, 2005 09:07 pmOverall, things are going well. The reality of the situation is that I have things I need and money headed my way. Everything really should be fine. But in my head I've been on a roller coaster of anxiety and emotion, one day feeling great, the next day constantly anxious. It's interesting that I seem to have left depression behind for the most part. Anxiety, more and more, is my main problem. I wonder what that means?
Saturday, I had
velvetpage,
pyat, their bundle of cuteness,
etherlad, and
sassy_fae over for apple pie, socializing, and geeky games.
The gaming barely took off, distracted as we were by the cuteness, the socializing, and my dear father's incessant babble, but we made it most of the way through a game of Settlers.
We went to Pizza Hut for dinner, where much fattening food was consumed, then Pyat and Velvetpage headed back home to put the cute one to bed. The rest of us went to Etherlad and SassyFae's place and watched movies. There, I received much kitty cuddling, and got to hold a ferret! Yay! Ferrets are totally on speed. But kitties are cute and purry and meowy.
Does it make me rude that I often attempt to greet the felines before I greet the humans in a new place?
The next day, I got up super early to teach, and then my mother and I drove her friend to the Toronto airport. We tried to go to Dixie Value mall afterwards, but it wasn't open yet, so we headed to Square One.
Before grabbing lunch, we stopped at a Laura Plus, where I scored a really nice pair of dress pants with a pretty beaded belt for $30 CAD. After lunch (sushi for me!) we visited many shoe stores with disappointing results. I needed new shoes to walk and exercise in, but with my orthotics and strange foot shape, that's a tough thing to find. Especially since I still wasn't clear on the difference between walking, running, or cross-training shoes (other than the price).
After exhausting possibilities in the mall, we went across the street to the Sport Chek where we hit gold. The guy there had been working in the shoe department for more than 5 years, and boy did he know his stuff. He explained various technologies in the shoe to me, including some of the differences between different shoe types. He also pointed me towards the brands which are shaped like my foot: narrow in the heel and wide in the toes (for those wondering, that would be Saucony and New Balance). And, he showed me how to tie the shoes to give extra support to the arch.
Lucky for me, the shoe that was the best fit for me was also relatively pretty (albeit, not plain black). It was a mixture of white, silver, and shiny blue. Shiny blue! *bounce*
They felt SOOOOO good.
Today was likewise hectic. I meant to get up and go workout, but I was up late being anxious and trying to meditate, so instead I slept later and woke up tired because I also slept poorly.
My mother and I went to the alteration place to pick my stuff up, and also grabbed some cosmetics I needed and a few other things. Then, we went to the grocery store. After grabbing lunch at home, checking email, and packing bags, we headed on out again. First we went to Costco, where we got ink for my mom, a chair for my room, and diet cola sweetened with splenda. Then we went to Office Depot where my mother wanted to spend a gift certificate which is going to expire soon. She took forever to pick out two packs of gel pens, and was almost late getting me to teaching!
After teaching, I dragged her to Canadian Tire and Zellers, where we picked up a mirror and alarm clock for me.
Now I've got everything I really ought to have at the moment aside from a dresser, which will be difficult to aquire. And we did well; got good deals on everything, pretty much. It sure does feel nice to get a lot done, especially since next weekend my mother will have the car again.

Date: 2005-03-08 03:31 am (UTC)Your shopping expedition sounds more productive than anything I've attempted in a long time! Most outings end up with me acquiring maybe one or two key items. It took me several trips to figure out what I wanted in an alarm clock (trips where other things were purchased of course) and I ended up getting the perfect one as a gift!
Dressers are easy to acquire, but difficult to get home. Mine travelled to me strapped crazily to the top of my Dad's car.
Good luck with the anxiety. It seems unfair that soemthing that works well on anxiety (like meditation) is hardest to do when anxious!
