Well, I was up late last night hanging out with sassy_fae and etherlad watching nifty movies. Wild Wild West + Fight Club made for a pleasant combination. :)

the question is slightly unclear as to whether we're supposed to be comparing our ring and index fingers with each other, or our ring and index fingers as compared to our middle finger. as i read it, i was supposed to compare my ring and index fingers?

What definition of 'slut' are you using?

The traditional (One who sleeps with people because of factors external to them (ie pressure, popularity, etc...)) or the one posited by the book of 'The Ethical Slut'?

Also not entirely sure if I feel comfortable answering a question that lists poly along with swinging and with being a slut.

Can't help you with your comfort levels, there. Some people who are poly are also swingers and/or sluts. Some aren't. Them being listed together does not apply equating the three.

I don't have a copy of the book, but a friend of mine does. It is the full publication of one of the only properly done surveys of the US population's sexuality. I remember being pretty shocked that most people in the US fell into the "less than 5 partners ever." It may not be exactly five, but it is something in that area.

And, culturally, the US is definitely more prudish than Canada, but not by a large enough margin to not make me slutty by mainstream Canadian standards, speaking for myself.

umm... the polls seems to not cover all possible options.

my index finger is quite shorter than ring finger. I have started fights(esp. when i was younger), but I'm not quite a "slut" since I've had less than 5 partners, but I am also still "young" and I expect this number to increase over my lifetime.

Fascinating! I’ve just discovered something interesting about my body.

On my left hand, as nearly as I can tell, my index finger and ring finger are the same length. (Depending exactly how I hold my fingers, I can make one or the other slightly longer.)

On my right hand, my ring finger is about 5mm longer than my index finger.

(Since I didn’t know how to answer the "yes/no" part of the questions: I don’t remember ever having initiated a physical fight, although I ended up in a lot of them as a child. If the cultural average is less than 5 partners, I’m sexually promiscuous in comparison to it, but I have a hard time believing that figure. I’m poly, and I’m also a slut. People seem to consider me unusually mellow and low-stress. I love rollercoasters and spicy food and I’m kinky — more toppish than bottomish, but I switch.)

on my left hand, index and ring at *exactly* the same length. on my right hand, index is noticeably longer than ring. Putting them all together, my left fingers and right ring finger are all the exact same length, and the right index is about half a centimetre longer than the other three.

So I have no idea how to answer this, all told.

Dunno... with my hand, no matter which way I look at it, the two fingers are definitely different lengths. So it isn't so tough to figure out. And this is true on both hands for me.

I think your fingers should be straight... not locked so that they bend slightly back at the joint, but not bent in the other direction either.

I'm not so sure I agree with that cultural average - what culture is this for? I just barely reach the "over 5 sexual partners", but I do. I don't really consider myself a slut, but I am poly. So I suppose there are out there who would consider me as such.

Amusingly, my mother-in-law called me a slut. It was an act, however (during a mock cave rescue where we were playing roles).
