Kudos n' stuff
Feb. 15th, 2005 10:57 amI am at
lariel's. Until the newsroom opens tomorrow at the conference, I will only have intermittent int0rnet.
Her puppy is SO CUTE! And it has this beautiful neck with this gorgeous arch to it... It apparently is a breed that runs. And now that I am working on training him not to jump on me, things are going well. I'm really not usually a dog person. Really. But its possible I might be learning to like them. I blame that on
cortneyofeden and
ef2 and
lariel, all of whom have particularly nice adorable dogs.
Kudos
I would just like to congratulate both
purplerabbit and
velvetpage on getting so far in their novel-writing process. I bow to your commitment to the process... I always stall around 70 pages, so far at least. So, I stand in awe of you both. :)
Other stuff
I'm all made up. Like, with makeup. I figure, I'm trying to look like a professional journalist, and most adults wear tasteful makeup to work. Well, adult females anyway.
Today I'm going to the Science Museum and the International Spy Museum. Should be super cool!
Narrative of my trip here (funny story)
Continental starts with a C, and apparently, C is for cattle. As in, packed in like cattle. Their seats are too wide for my ass, and while I am rather large for my height, I'm not fat relative to the American population, aka, their client base. For that reason, I usually avoid them like the plague. But when they are offering to fly me to Baltimore for only about $110, I can't refuse. Not on my budget, anyway.
I got to the airport on time for my five o'clock flight. The marquee said it might be delayed, but I was assured that I would still be able to make my connection in Newark. Needless to say, by the time the plane arrived, it was clear that would not be the case, so I was called to the counter to discuss my options.
I explained to them that I could fly to any of the three airports in the DC area, and asked if there were any direct flights. I was told there are no direct flights from Buffalo to the DC area, and that furthermore, if they flew me on US Air through Charlotte -- yes, that's right, Charlotte North Carolina -- they could get me to Baltimore by 10:30. My originaly flight plan had me arriving at 8:30, so naturally, I was not pleased. But the Continental employee shook her head and said that if I didn't take that option, I would have to fly out the next day. Naturally I sighed and said I'd take it. I was instructed to go towards the security checkpoint, and that I should talk to the folks at the first US Airway gate, which was gate 9.
On my way to gate 9, I noticed a United Airlines flight scheduled to go to DC. Direct. Interesting. So there ARE direct flights from Buffalo.
Then, I got to gate 9, and discovered that it was NOT US Airways. In fact, it was Jet Blue.
Eventually, I did find the first US Airways gate, which was indeed boarding a plane for Charlotte. The nice folks there, however, looked at me kind of funny when I told them I was supposed to get to Baltimore via Charlotte. "That doesn't make any sense," the man said. And he was, of course, right. It DIDN'T make any sense. "I'm not even sure we can GET you to Baltimore from there," he added.
I explained that I needed to get to one of, any of, the DC area airports. He said, "Can you fly to Reagan?" I said yes. He said, "It's finishing boarding now. Go. Quickly." I ran, and got a direct 45 minute flight to Reagan, arriving an hour earlier than I would have with my original 3.5 hour itinerary.
So it all worked out, and I didn't get packed in like cattle because US Airway realizes how fat we North Americans are. :)
