Merry Fucking XMas to me
Dec. 25th, 2004 12:33 pmI stayed up way too late last night, which was entirely my fault. But then I had a lot of trouble falling asleep. When I finally fell asleep, I got a pocket phone call from someone at 6 a.m., an accidental alarm at 10 a.m., and another call at a quarter to twelve (which was reasonable). I barely slept because I was having difficulty breathing again.
Yesterday was, in spite of all that, a good day. I got presents for the children I am closest to which I'm pretty excited about. I got myself several books I knew I'd be wanting eventually, and which I could buy cheaper with my employee discount at Valencia Street with shipping it east than trying to locate the books again when I'm settled. I ate tasty food, petted cute kitties, watched a nifty movie, and got home safely. I also worked the bookstore for most of Christmas Eve (11-6:30), which I actually really enjoyed; this included a surprise visit from
rosefox and
mikz.
I'm awake, and trying to stay awake so that I can not mess up my sleep schedule too much, and so that I can get packing done. But boy, do I wish I could go to sleep.
What I want for XMas

What I want for XMas
- a lessening of cold symptoms
- a productive packing day
- nifty friends coming over to keep me company while I pack
- to read lots of LJ entries wherein people are happy because they are having a wonderful day, or happy stories related to the season

Date: 2004-12-26 01:19 am (UTC)This is rare because my father's sister and her husband and three children are ordinarily from Hawaii or scattered about the globe. One child went to college in Maine, another in MA, and the third in Colorado, Washington, and Australia. And now my sister lives in CA also. Plus my father's mother is also in from Minnesota.
Everyone together having a great time is pretty damned unique because of this, and also lovely because they've all now seen the LoTR-RoK extended for the first time ever. :)
preview!
Date: 2004-12-26 05:26 am (UTC)My whole family was playing the railroad game where you get to draw lines on Europe. Well, halfway through the game, my dad took his move, and announced he was going to pick up a load, and put his train there. Except it would have been a flying jump move, and not one you can actually do. My brother caught it and pointed this out to him. Apparently he'd been doing that all along!
I was the only one that had played the game before, but my brother had read the rulebook. So I probably should have been paying more attention than I had been! Anyway, he was definately winning at that point, and now we knew why! He was effectively moving twice as fast as the rest of us. We all broke down in laughter for about 5 minutes.
We kidded him about it for the rest of the game. He probably won't ever hear the end of it, actually. The "TARDIS train upgrade", the "Harry Potter flying train", etc...
"Trains don't fly!"
And apparently that is Der Vatter rule!
There is family precedent for this: /His/ Großmutter would misspell English words when playing Scrabble, and nobody would say anything. He told us stories about her then. :>
