OK, folks. This headboard that I just found on craigslist is selling for only $40, and I could be crazy, but I think it is made of wood that will approximately match my dresser (woo!)

Anyone have opinions on whether it is worth $40, and also as to whether it would match my wooden dresser (the only furniture I own that I'm particularly attached to)?

It can be seen here:

It also is mostly solid for comfortable leaning, yet on the sides it is kind of post-y which may make for good tie points, as desired.

What would it attatch to, though?

you know, I'm not sure, having never bought or owned a bed frame nor having ever put one together.

I have one of those metal bed frames under my bed... I believe it has holes in it for screwing headboards to. I have no idea if this headboard is intended to be screwed into like that.

Also, the way my bed is set up right now I'm not sure it matters... it's against the wall, so this would just sit between the bed and the wall, leaning against the wall. But then, it being solid oak and all that, maybe that's not the best of ideas, since it would really suck when it fell over on me or on a guest.

Weren't you saying that you want people to tell you to not spend money?

yes! And people are doing so, and it is having its desired effect. :)

I may or may not choose to actually purchase this, but as things often transpire with craigslist, it may not turn out to be an option anyhow.

Most of all, I don't want to be spending money on throwaway things like eating out or vacations (hence, the reminder was useful when I was considering what to do now that my brother isn't visiting). I want to be thoughtful about how I spend money, wait for good deals, prioritize, etc. It is possible, even likely, that I will decide that more storage space solutions are far more important than a pretty headboard, and thus not make this purchase.

First question is whether the system for attaching this headboard to the rails is the same as that on your current bed. Second question is about mattress height. That headboard has a lower rail and a gap between it and the mattress. If with your mattress the gap is sufficiently large, your pillow will slip through and it will be annoying.
