A name, a naming
Jul. 11th, 2004 11:45 pmThe weekend was a success, although it took longer to get off its feet than I might have liked.
In all non-professional situations, I would like to be known in the future as Danaeris, or Dana for short.
Much love to you all.
EDIT
That's pronounced dah-NEH-ris, but if in doubt, ask me in person and I'll say it for you.

Date: 2004-07-11 11:57 pm (UTC)I have to admit, though, that it's always going to make me think of Daenerys, from A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. Though there are certainly worse characters with whom one could be associated -- she's the young empress-in-exile, who midwifed dragons back into her world after they'd been extinct for several hundred years.

Date: 2004-07-12 01:29 am (UTC)Ha! I knew I'd heard the name somewhere before.
I was looking for a longer version of Dana. This name came to mind; I feel this spelling is beautiful, and I feel that this name sounds beautiful, yet it has an acceptable diminutive which also speaks to me.
Danaeris sounds lovely. It has dignity, strength, beauty, and refinement. But there is also a feeling of wildness, ever so faintly in the background.
Dana is less flighty and stronger and more casual than Danaeris. It can have the fire of youth while being ageless and mature. I've known some quiet, antisocial, unattractive tomboys who were named Dana, but I've also known some sensual, beautiful, and fiery Danas in my time too.
Ultimately, the associations with Dana and Danaeris are sufficiently scattered and ambiguous that I felt that it left me with a slightly positive blank slate. A slate onto which I could imprint myself as I am today.
The name also turns out to be Dana and Eris. The inclusion of the Goddess Dana's name was intentional; Eris was not, but that makes it all the more appropriate. :)
Just a quick question...
Date: 2004-07-12 08:54 am (UTC)Question, though: Is the short form pronounced "day-neh", "dah-neh", or in some other fashion? (Silly language with complex vowel sounds.)
