Car advice
May. 11th, 2004 07:53 pmOK. So I'm going to start working on selling Unseelie's car again. When it gets sold, I get all the money, and it gets subtracted from the money he owes me. If it hasn't sold by late May, the title will be transferred to me while I'm on break and have time to do all that stuff, and then I'll probably keep on trying to sell it.
If you think that I should just keep the car and drive it into the ground so I can practice driving in a "junker," please comment and say so. My current take on the whole driving thing is that it is more expensive (and annoying, what with parking) than it is worth, and in 1.5 years I can rent cars, and join city car share, and pick my driving skills back up when that time comes.
My other option is to use it to trade-in on a used or new car, but dealership cars are just so expensive, that really doesn't seem like the best route.
I'm also looking for advice on my car ad, which I'm going to be posting on Craigslist. I expect I'll start at a high price and lower it every few weeks, but if you think this price is unreasonably high to start with, please let me know.
Black 1996 Dodge Neon 4-Door Automatic in fair condition.
105K Miles. Front bumper has slight cosmetic damage.
Registered, recently passed the smog test. Oil changed regularly, brake pads and battery replaced in the last few months, alternator and starter motor replaced in the last year.
Clean title history.
E-mail for pictures.
$2000 (KBB value).

Your car ad
Date: 2004-05-11 08:07 pm (UTC)Also, "Oil changed in last month", is... damning with faint praise. What I'd want to know is, "Oil changed at regular intervals over the lifetime of the car"; other than that, don't mention oil.
Clarify that the front bumper's damage is cosmetic (unless it's not).
I'd be pretty darned unlikely to deem it worthy to keep a car in the City, for the amount of driving that you seem to "need" to do. Registration, insurance, parking, etc.
You seem to not be friends with

P.S.: There's a waiting period for CarShare? D'oh!

You have to have had a license for 2 years to join city carshare. I've had mine for about 9 months. So in 15 months I can join city carshare. That plus the expanded ability to rent cars more easily when I turn 25 in about 17 months, and I figure I can wait. I'll also better be able to afford car stuff then, even though once I can use city carshare and rent cars cheap, getting my own may not make sense.

Date: 2004-05-13 12:49 pm (UTC)I'd also describe how extensive the 'cosmetic damage' is: a 1 inch x 2 inch scuff, or the whole bumper or something like that. a pic would probably help. People don't like doubts. me, if I have a doubt about something, I typically just skip it.
but I'm much more of the 'full disclosure' type person.
