the nipple ring holes are closing up amazingly fast.

take a vanilla mudslide. substitute nocello for the kalhua. mmm.

Perfect drink to get work done with!

I'm already finding people's responses to the math poll incredibly amusing. Like the people who inconsistently interpret the notation, yet claim that there is no inconsistency in the notation that makes it confusing.

It's also interesting to see the people who haven't done advanced mathematics think they are all addition. Which is exactly the confusion I am concerned about when dealing with my students.

But I guess there are inconsistencies in notation, by nature. I mean, you can't denote multiplication of 2 by 3 by writing 23, even though you CAN denote multiplication of a by c by writing ac. So sure. In some cases, you have to break down and write the multiplication sign.

In truth, the only one with which I believe there is any real ambiguity is the first one. The others are quite clearly multiplication.

I think I might finish this chapter and then do data entry while I watch Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which I've never seen. Life is so hard!

I liked the way you wrote them in the poll answer selections actually. That was all much more clear than any of the samples.

well, brackets/parentheses eliminate the ambiguity.

The samples are examples of things anyone might find themselves writing in the course of a basic algebra course. It is more standard to use formats like that than the format I used in the poll itself, unfortunately.

Hm. I went to school in Florida, so stuff was probably different, but I remember we had to use brackets in writing anything anbiguous. Like, we were severely docked for not doing so. And we had to show ALL our work, which pissed me off until Calculus, when somehow it suddenly made sense why to me.

Um, that's not relevant or anything, just you kicked off a memory. :D
