OK. I've reached a very sad conclusion. The left nipple has migrated. It's almost at the tip. If I leave it, it'll migrate all the way out and I'll have an open wound on the tip.
I've gotten used to the nipple rings, and I really LIKE having them. So I have a number of questions. Some of you may be able to answer them, so I'm writing them down here.

- The right nipple doesn't appear to be migrating, but it is crooked. If I'm going to take the left one out, should I just take the right one out too, let it grow in, and try again some other time?
- If it migrated once, will it necessarily migrate the next time?
- How long do I have to wait to try again?
- Anything else I should know?

Generally, when a piercing migrates from a nipple it's because the piercing wasn't quite deep enough, or so I've been told.
Talk to a good piercer for more information.

Date: 2004-05-07 04:41 am (UTC)i've tried to get my ear cartilage pierced twice, and both times it threatened to sprout keloids, so i had to take those piercings out. it sucked, given how much i'd been looking forward to having them healed (and now i can't get any new piercings at all in my ears, since my bike helmet would rip them to shreds.)

That's the only issue I know with repiercing, but I've never been pierced, either.

Date: 2004-05-07 03:11 pm (UTC)Q1: If the right one is crooked but stable, then it just depends how much you mind the crookedness. Piercers would say (have said, to me) take it out if you want it redone. Me, since I've had two migrate, I'd keep anything that was stable and count myself lucky. :-)
Q2: I have asked this same question. The answers I got have all seemed to say "Not necessarily, but there is a chance it might migrate again." Some folks say that repiercing behind the scar tissue left from the first one's migration will keep it anchored well. This makes sense to me. I intend to find out firsthand.
Q3: I bet not long at all. Mine, a piercing I'd had for years, was unable to take jewelry within hours, sealed within days, and completely not tender (returned to pre-piercing sensitivity levels and sturdiness) within a week. I was in awe.
Q4: If you're going to take the left one out, I suggest taking it out soon, if only because the scar tissue may eventually settle out at a different color than the surrounding surface. Mine looked fine until a little while into the healing, so this never occurred to me. Days later I looked at my nip and it had a line of white going up one side. Oopsie. :-)
Caveat: I don't ever intend to breastfeed, so I'm pretty casual about messing with my nipples.
