do you use an intel or apple (or other) based PC? have you calibrated your monitor and browser?
i expect you'll find the intel and compatible folk report your hair on screen being darker than the apple folk. the default decoded value to generated intensity curves are different.
in my case IE renders images darker than photoshop does. for web presentation i have to crank 'em up.
those who are beauty school trained will use different terminology as well. i've seen boxes picturing "light blonde" that look "brown" to me.
