camping food
Apr. 28th, 2004 11:58 pmI'd like to do a run to Costco for food for the trip to Annwfn among other things. Anyone with a car willing sometime tomorrow?
We're only getting Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch, so I need to pack some kind of breakfast and lunch.
I guess since its only two meals that I need to pack for, it won't be so hard. Any bright suggestions on tasty food that won't spoil, though?

Date: 2004-04-29 01:05 am (UTC)I've got to be back to my place by 5:30-6ish, but I could probably manage that. Drop me a line tomorrow (er... today).

When I camp I typically go with dry goods; granolas, trail mix, nuts, etc. Good crackers and cheese are another common item I do; if you've got a good ziplock bag then a day or two without refrigeration is fine for cheese (as long as you keep it somewhere that doesn't get hot). Then again, I really like simple foods like that (especially since they're easy) and I'm not sure you'd consider it "tasty food". *shrugs*
If you haven't committed elsewhere.....

Date: 2004-04-29 10:02 pm (UTC)I'm very keen on taking potatoes and some sort of reasonably high fat-content cheese. You can roast the potatos by wrapping them in foil and burying them under the coals of a burned-down fire for a while. Then you slice them open, and shove the cheese inside; the fat melts out and works like butter to make the potato more palatable, and the cheese itself provides protein. Fairly decent meal, esp if you also have some fruit or other veggies to add a variety of trace nutrients.
Not that I've been camping at all in, oh, five or six years? *sigh*
