Did I miss anything?

At this point I'm stuck on two things:
Shoes vs. boots. My running shoes are by FAR the most comfortable, practical footwear I own. But they are also not waterproof. I own a pair of boots that are good leather and waterproof, but last time I wore them they didn't fit right and were downright uncomfortable to walk in. Which do I bring? I could do boots and sandals with the philosophy that if it is warm enough to not wear the boots, I can just wear the sandals. Dunno.

Sneaking the backpack into the school. The backpack is covered in patches: a rainbow flag, a pentacle, a canadian flag, a leather pride flag, and a sport death patch. I can't wear it into the school, no-way. But I also cannot fit all this stuff into any other trip friendly bag (other than wheely suitcases, which don't seem appropriate for a camping trip). I'm HOPING it'll fit into one of the giant apple shopping bags I have. Alternatively, I can drape my coat over it and carry it in and stash it in the teacher's lounge as discreetly as possible. Bleh.

boots vs shoes

I have not worn shoes other than special occasions since 98. I always wear boots, regardless of weather or seasons.

I cannot imagine not wearing boots in the wilderness.

I'll second this, except for wearing my flaming chucks (my line of work requires close toed shoes) and sandals in the summer. Even then, I wear boots when I'm going into the wilderness, with my pants tucked into them (thankfully BDUs look pretty good tucked into combat boots ;P). Too bad you don't have the time to break them in properly - maybe get some blister pads or suchness.
