The worst part about the hot weather is the sleeping. I sleep best in a cold room with heavy covers to snuggle under.

Too hot to sleep well.

Plus allergies acting up, waking me up with a sneezing fit in the middle of the night.

Plus every scrap of skin not under a sheet exposed to the ravages of mosquitos.

Plus the usual aches and pains, AND the achey piercings...

Make it VERY tough indeed for the Questioner to sleep.

Blah. Oh, and this weather has also given me dandruff in addition to mosquito bites springing up everywhere.

Insomnia, begone! And with it, could we have an end to this ridiculous heat wave? Another month or so of good sleep would be great...

To-do to solve these problems:
*pick up some benadryl to banish both the hayfever and make me drowsy
*pick up a fan to get the air moving around in the bedroom
*try some dandruff shampoo to make the itching stop
*do SOMETHING to combat the mosquitos -- suggestions so far include dumping some machine oil on the water outside my window, burning a citronella candle in the alcove outside my window (will probably cause an allergic reaction in me), and mosquito netting canopy around the bed (could be pretty, some claim would be ineffective.

God damn but I hate them mosquitos. And boy do they loooove me.

It's 7:50 (am). The windows were open all night and the thermometer in the kitchen shows 75 degrees (F). I'm looking at the reflection of the sunlight on my unclad back on the deep black background of Q's comment page and thinking of photography. Throw me a snowball and I'll shine a handmirror your way.

Welcome to Global Warming Land, where the weather isn't necessarily warmer everywhere at once, but is definitely more variable and extreme.

Yes, a tiny quantity of machine oil would do it. A rather larger quantity of vegitable oil would do the trick in a lighter footprint sort of way.

When I worked on a ranch in SLO, soldering and testing and playing with the webcam, mosquitos were thick in the air. Mass automated carnage was both fun and popular... I found a nearby stream with on wide slow spot that looked to me like a perfect breeding ground. Above it was a shrub. Hanging from the shrub, inches from the water and about 70 feet from the work trailer, I added a bug zapper.

Get 'em where they breed. The lead software engineer was in favor of installing a webcam with live audio from the bugzapper.

squeeee-SMACK-BZ-ZZZ-ZZZZZZZZZT-CRACK. Buzy little step up transformer hard at work *and* far enough away that we weren't breathing vaporized skeeterguts. (mount it downwind).

pick up a used air conditioner so you can keep the window closed--no mosquitos!--and be cold/snuggly?
