At the moment, the mean is 167 and the median is 165.

The lowest is 135 and the highest is 220.

A number of people who either have not seen me in a month and a half and even then, only briefly, or who have NEVER seen me in person, responded. However, the winner of this contest is [livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane.

Today at the gym I weighed just under 189 lbs. -- and that's after having already lost 3 lbs. or more since I started working out and dieting lots.

I know I don't look it. Most women my height and my weight are well into the plus sizes. I apparently just pack it really tight, or retain a lot of muscular tone from my atheletic days. :)

Supposedly my ideal maximum is 103-136. Note that when I was a competitive figure skater and training and dieting constantly, the lowest I got was 114, and I have bigger breasts and longer hair now, and will never be dieting or working out that much again. Needless to say, I don't trust an ideal weight range when I had to go through all that to be in the middle of it! Although maybe my muscles made a big difference to increase that.

Anyway, theoretically I have between 50 and 80 extra lbs. weighing down on my bad knees. I'm not sure exactly how much weight I want to lose, but I think 50 is sort of the max I expect to do, and I expect to take about a year to do it.

So there you have it.

Woohoo! Yay for semi-random guesses!

Sounds like your expectations are reasonable. As I've said, I don't put much faith in the BMI or other systems of "recommended weight," so it doesn't surprise me that you were only in the middle of that when you were *extremely* dedicated to diet and workout.

(and yes, you don't look it! *grin* )

Well, I didn't go on what you look like - I went on what you said, which is about a pants size larger than me but about 5" shorter than me, so I figured we probably weighed about the same. Guess it doesn't work that way!

A pound a week is considered a sensible & nonstressful weight-loss goal. (After the first three weeks or so... most diet/exercise etc. plans can drop 15 lbs or more in the first couple of weeks.) Two or more pounds/weeks is a high-pressure weightloss plan. A pound every two or three weeks is a gentle plan.

30-50 pounds in "about a year" is a good goal.

Keep in mind that women don't lose weight steadily, even when they diet steadily. About one week a month, your body *does not* want to lose anything.

Ohh thanks for that! I've been trying to loose weight, and I've noticed that every 5 weeks I gain like .5 lbs. Interesting.

done hijacking now....

Anyone who says that you "should" weigh 103 pounds is very, very wrong.
