Nipple piercings
Jan. 15th, 2004 10:51 amBoth nipples
14 gauge titanium barbells
Cost of labor: $40
Cost of barbells: $20 x 2
Total cost: $80
Total for just the one nipple would be $45.
Currently, the only reason I can think of not to go through with it is expense and inability to breastfeed if I ever breed. Are there any other possible bad side effects etc.?
OK, several months of no hot tubbing (I'm not sure how many).

The only other problem I can think of is the possibility of antagonizing your parents/relatives, depending on how strict they are....

Things that cause let down can vary from being too full, to someone suckling, to the sound of a baby crying on TV... and that's why you wear absorbant pads inside your bra if you breastfeed.

Date: 2004-01-15 11:11 am (UTC)My nipple took about a year and a half to really heal up. They can tend to flare up with your hormonal cycle, too.
If you do get them pierced, I'd recommend starting with 12ga instead of 14ga. Mine started behaving much better when I put the 12ga ring in, and I've heard similar experiences from many people.

I'd also recommend getting them both done at once, if you're thinking of having them both done eventually. They'll be more even and symmetrical. Poke at me with more questions if you want.

Date: 2004-01-15 11:46 am (UTC)However, I'm finding that with my belly button piercing, going out of my way to care for it sensibly has made the recovery period go much more smoothly than I was led to expect. They warned me at the time of the piercing that belly button piercings are the hardest to heal, that it takes 6 months to a year, and most people are on the later end of that. That fit with what all my friends who have navel piercings have told me about their experience. However, it's 5 months since the piercing, and as far as I can tell, the piercing has been fully healed for at least a month now.
I credit a large part of that with having changed my clothing entirely to prepare for it. They warn you that waistbands are irritating to a belly-button piercing; knowing I wanted to get it done, I started switching to low-waisted pants a good 8 months before the piercing. I'm also careful to keep my belly button dry when not in the hot tub, as the moisture combined with warmth promotes infection.
I would imagine that there are similar things you could do to help a nipple piercing heal quickly. Like, say, carefully considering what bras would provide the best environment for a piercing, and comitting to wearing ones that don't only for special occasions for the first several months.
