I slept in until 1 p.m. and I'm still a little tired. I think I'm fighting off a cold.

I was going to go to they gym today, but I don't know now... Maybe expending that kind of energy when you're fighting off a cold is a bad idea, and I DO have a LOT to do. Write lesson plans for 3-4 classes that will last me through 4 days and a fifth lesson plan for them to work on when I'm gone, write final exams for them to do while I'm gone, finishing stuff up at the magazine. The latter includes: two reviews, continued edits on my interface story, revision of the product intern binder, revision of the submission guidelines, gathering all of the pr contacts I've made since I started there, clearing the computer out... It doesn't sound like a lot, but it is still rather intimidating. And of course I should go shopping, clean my room, exercise 3-4 times per week, pay my bills, pay my NASW dues, make myself a web page, subscribe to worthwhile pubs I might write for, pitch stories... the list goes on and on. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm working on lesson plans for review of Chemistry. I'd say I'm maybe one third through the material they've covered. And my Gods, this textbook SUCKS! I need to dig out my notes from high school... I know I kept those somewhere in storage. I still have all of my MIT notes, but that stuff is way too advanced, sadly. Anyway, I can reconstruct a well-written lesson plan and progression of information using this textbook, but... well. If the school provides the students with textbooks, I'm stuck with it, because its a poor school and it would be tough for them to replace them all. But if the students buy their textbooks every year we may be able to do something about it. We'll see. If nothing else, when I get a chance I will go do research and find a good secondary school chem textbook, and tell my students its name so that if they can afford it, they can buy themselves a copy.

Anyhow, back to work!

maybe you could provide the entire class with photocopies of the really important bits from the good textbooks, or convince the school to buy a few to put in the reference section of the library? that would help avoid the only-rich-kids-get-good-textbooks dilemma

do the students have net access? there are a whole lot of high-school-level chem tutorials (some with nifty animations, too) online. i have links to some at

Apropos of nothing, any chance you can bring Nexus & harness by work sometime this week? I miss them.
