I took the job. Details:
So my total income, with the loan advantage, will be equivalent to $22K if I stay there for two terms, yet it still leaves me tons of time to write.
Yay!
I'm going in today to meet the students and the substitute teacher who has been handling the class. I'm a little nervous but it should be ok.
And in randomville, one of the editors handed me some crappy data entry work to do over the holidays, due January 5, paid at a $15/hour rate to invoice separately from the internship. Basically, transcribing two chapters of a book to electronic format.
So, something. Weeeee!
- the ONLY hidden commitment is that once every 8 weeks I have to come in 45 minutes early and supervise the 7th and 8th grade students at recess to make sure they don't kill each other
- yes, there is a study period available for me this term
- yes, they should be able to designate me full time. They also may be able to claim low-income status in which case I may be able to get portions of my Stafford loan forgiven too.
- no, none of the students have english problems that will impact my teaching
- no, they don't monitor my teaching, and I'm free to organize the grading system as I please
- no, the position won't be withdrawn if the Rabbi doesn't like me; besides, he preferred me because I'm Jewish (at least, not in person)
- yes, I only get paid for ten months/year; this amounts to 20K with the study period
- as it turns out, they are progressive and I can show my elbows and collar bone; I just can't show knees or wear pants.
- yes, I can take my trip to Boston AS IS, without even changing a single day

Date: 2003-12-19 12:24 pm (UTC)Sounds a good deal - with the free time and all! plenty of time for dancing, too, right? ;)
btw, Genesis is THE youth dance studio. Dan and Diana came from that studio, and Nadia visits it often.
