So Unseelie just filled out his FAFSA for 2003/2004. It knows that he worked full time/went to school less than half time last term, expects to go to school full time next term, and is an independent student.

It said that his EFC is $9046 (iirc). What does that mean? Is that supposed to be his EFC for all of 2003/2004, including fall which is already come and gone, spring, and summer? Or is that just for spring, or just for summer, or just for spring and summer?

More importantly, with that EFC, what kinds of grants and loans might they offer him? I'm worried that he'll have to take out loans from MITFCU to pay for next term. :(

Something he might want to look into... someone was telling me that many private colleges have special programmes for older students that provide both discounts and grants. The key term for these is "nontraditional student". I'm just about to start the hunt for these myself, in the hopes of getting in next fall.

the problem is not tuition at this point. Tuition is dirt cheap, about $50/unit, so maybe $800 total?

The problem is covering his living expenses while he goes to school. And I doubt CCSF has anything like that since a large proportion of their students fall into this category.
