Plans tonight anyone?

Tonight I will be packing for WorldCon.

Anyone want to do dinner and keep me company while I decide what to wear/bring with me? Costuming is fun! This may include lots of naked [livejournal.com profile] questioner changing clothes repeatedly, so comfort with nudity is advised.

As a bonus, there's lots of leftover alcohol and soda and stuff from the weekend, so free booze or other beverages are included in the deal.

Digicams

So if I do what I think I'm going to do, I'm going to drop ~$200 on a digicam sometime real soon. It has to be compatible with my iBook. Anyone have any recommendations or warnings?

I think that is all for now.

I chose my Sony based on the fact that it uses a Memory Stick which my VIAO had a built in port, so I say pay attention to the MEDIUM that the camera uses to store the pictures... Also, what is the ultimate output... Print, Web, Paper, that will determine the MEGAPIXELS, which run from 1 to 5 (Very approximate) and COST is directly proportional with this. For instance, I have a THREE MEGAPIXEL that ran me around $400, plus I dropped another fin on a HUGE memory stick. For Web based resolution pictures, I can store over 900 pictures at a time...

Oh, and your offer to watch you change clothes and drink free booze is so way tempting :)

I have a completely unrelated question.
We're trying to figure out the right way to put Canadian addresses into our system. One of them says the street address, then Montreal, QC, postal code, Canada. Would Montreal be the City, QC the State, Postal code foo, and then Canada as the country?

Standard form is:

999 Street St.
Montreal, Que.
P0S 7A1
Canada

At least when I lived in Canada, we did not use a two letter abbreviation for our provinces. Ontario was Ont. This may have changed.

Completely separate any debate on compatible drivers for a specific camera, one can find at Fry's and the like USB card readers for most media formats for about $20. The 5-format read/write multi adapter that [livejournal.com profile] karenbynight has was actually only $20. Given that - camera to OS compatibility is a tiny thing compared to what it used to be.

And iPhoto does almost everything the bundled software that came with my camera does in windows, and better. (With the one exception - it doesn't have the stitch-together panorama tool that runs in windows.)

I don't think there are any real compatibility issues with modern cameras and an iBook. It doesn't have a card slot of any kind, so you'll either be hooking the camera's USB up directly or using one of the N-in-1 readers, both of which seem to work fine these days. I wouldn't worry much about media type, either, unless you have an investment in one type already.

The Canon digital ELPH series ("cigarette-pack" sized) are pretty popular, and with (I think) good reason; the optics are fine, the interface is workable, and the size is great (though some people want a more substantial lens cover and end up getting an external case). The S200 (2 megapixel, 2x zoom) is the one that's closest to your price range. My housemates have a S200 and a S400 (and the owner of the S400 just bought his SO another S200 for her trip to Florence), and I borrowed a S200 for my Hawaiian vacation.

DPreview is the place to go for exhaustive reviews, but I find that much of the stuff they discuss is irrelevant to a "casual" photographer.

I'm happy with the quality of the pics my Kodak takes, but the software is flaky; I frequently have to restart my computer a couple of times in order to get pics from the camera onto the HD. Though that may just be a Win98 problem. :-/
