So the truth is that what I REALLY want to do for WorldCon is be the iMac girl. I know that's not very FanGirl of me, but there you have it.

What's the iMac Girl?
I'm glad you asked! Pictures can be found here.

Please comment with your opinions to one or any or none of the following questions:
(1) Do you think I have the body to pull this off without looking horrific? Alternatively, do you think I'll be adequately comfortable in it to go ahead and wear it?
(2) Which colour do you think I should go with?
(3) Do you really think I should go with something more scifi/fannish?
(4) Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Some have suggested liquid latex... there's just so little of it I'm not sure how to make it structural. I could get a skin coloured or see-through catsuit and then apply costume to that. Or something. Any suggestions are welcome

I've done some costume work in my time, and this looks like an awful lot of work for relatively little return, in the sense that it will be near-impossible to acieve the desired result and have people actually "get it". Without the Apple font and logo nearby, there's very little to make somebody think of Apple or Imacs when they see that costume. And that's assuming you did an absolutely stellar job of putting it together, and ignoring the problem that nobody has anime boobs (at least, not without a lot of surgery). It might look cool, but people will ask you what anime it's supposed to be, and after a while, that would probably get irritating.

I'm not even going to contemplate the other questions, but for (2) the correct answer has got to be Bonzai Blue ;)

Wow, that's got to be on the threshold of the definition of "clothing". But hm, an interesting design problem.

The key has got to be the colored sections. The apple logo will probably identify iMac enough, but it would be cool if you got something translucently-colorful in that special iMac way. I'm not sure if there are any fabrics that will do the job; maybe some translucent shimmery fabric? I'm not sure liquid latex will be the right shade - isn't it usually too opaque?

As for how to do it, I think there is some commonly used costume substance (spirit gum?) that is sticky. You could use that to attach cloth of the right shade and such. Another option is to use strategically placed thread to hold things together. Essentially, sew yourself into the costume when you are ready. If you use tan-colored thread, it will be mostly invisible to anyone casually looking at you.

It looks like you could get long gloves, and sew extra bits onto them to make the shoulder stuff. For the feet, maybe white stockings with white garter belts? For the torso stuff, you probably want to just make that from scratch. Then attach the colored cloth in the right places over the white base. Actually, for the breasts, maybe you can use those stick-on-bra pads. That might actually provide useful support while also being part of the costume.

Blue.

I'm not an expert on costuning, but i'd use a nude colored body stoking as a base, and sew the body panels onto it in vinal, or plastic. Also, make sure to track down a old hockypuck mac mouse you don't mind dieing. I don't know how hard it is.

Also, very important. If you do this, post pictures where I can see them!!!

definitely blue for the recognizability factor. I think this costume could be done well and look good on you... or could be done crappily and look bad on ANYONE. I would, personally, try to make it out of mostly vinyl. Probably get some nearly-opaque clear/white vinyl and paint the blue parts onto it. At least for the bodysuit part. The gloves and stocking would probably have to be fabric.

I recognized what you meant immediately and only went to the link to reminisce. But I have no idea how typical I am. I'm not terribly "fannish" myself and would totally favor this over something moreso. I think it's cool! I'd love to see it :)

1) Yes I think you CAN pull this off.
2) I recommend the Grape, but she's got green hair.. so you might ook at which hair color you want to do. Of course you can get a wig, too.
3) Naw, it IS fannish, after all.
4) looking at the close up - http://www.toyboxarts.com/gallery/extra/mbabes-iCandy1/yum_g1024.jpg it appears to be on a white background. It would seem like you could use a WHITE bodysuit and white thigh highs with garter belt.. Then I'd paint the thigh highs and stick breast pads on it (or paint that, too. The bodysuit would give you coverage enough to be comfortable.. Also get elbow length gloves and maybe one of those "shrugs" that goes just over the shoulder - in purple - or cut a pair of stockings. to go up higher on the arms and shoulders. Don't forget the choker collar. The ears and mouse tail are tres importante. Of course you will have to have the imac apple on your chest no matter what.

btw, I just had another thought. You could get a purple bodystocking and then wear a white one one on top with cut outs for the purple spots. Ok, that might not work, but it came to mind so though I'd share it.
