Hijinx and snafu
Jun. 6th, 2003 12:17 amPoly thingy went very well. Lots of good socializing happened. We had *counts* about 11 people over, I think, but that count may be off.
Yay!
REALLY wanted a boy in my bed tonight. I needed boy cuddles, and so did he. Alas, the parking around here conspired against us, so he went home. Both of us sad, but we couldn't find him parking that wouldn't result in a heinous ticket.
Tomorrow I have that job interview at 11. I guess this is a last call for anyone who wants to do lunch with me, say, around noon, in downtown Palo Alto. I could also meet you a little further South near one of the other Caltrain stations in Zone 4 (that includes Mountain View).
I looked at their website and their job ad again (www.ftponline.com). I would DEFINITELY learn from this experience. It wouldn't just be a better paying full-time temporary job. See, I'd be editing and copy editing, which would make me FAR more employable. There have been a few jobs I think I would have had better odds at if I'd had editing experience. This will give me three months or thereabouts of full time editing experience!
If I had to choose between this and the Wired internship, I'd still choose Wired. It either pays the same or 1-2/hour less and is an hour of commute closer, logistically speaking. More importantly, I'm not headed right now towards being an editor; I'm headed towards being a freelance writer. Being a reporting intern where I'm forced to come up with and pitch story ideas would be FAR more valuable for the career I WANT, whereas editing experience will make me more employable for a career I wouldn't mind/could cope with. I don't WANT to be an editor. I want to be a writer. I'd like ultimately a spiffy part-time job where I make enough money to 'get by' and have enough spare time to freelance the other half of my time. Editing could be valuable for that, but not necessarily. Whereas I need to get better at this story idea thing to 'make it' as a freelance writer. And once I've done a reporting internship at Wired, it'll be trivial in comparison to now to freelance for them. They pay $1/word! d00d!
So there you have it.
I should stretch and fall into bed. I have to be up by 9 if I rush out the door, 8:30 or so if I take my time, if I'm going to make it to this interview on time. w00t, or something.

Date: 2003-06-06 08:57 am (UTC)I'm interviewing at a place at the corner of High St and Emerson, FYI. If I'm running late, I'll call you on my cell as soon as I get out of the interview. :)
yay!
Sorry I missed it.
Date: 2003-06-10 01:19 pm (UTC)I wanted to be there, but had some logistical/personal stuff to
which I did really need to attend. <sigh>
Hopefully, next time.

P.S.: I suspect that there may have been a fair number of people
from my friends list, too? ;->
