I can't believe I just did that! I closed a file that had my notes from two entire interviews without saving it. I even clicked No by accident when it asked if I wanted it saved.

I've used help, tried to find the auto-save stuff, but I can't. None of our computer experts are in right now. I may have to redo the entire set of interviews. At least they weren't long ones...

*tears out hair*

your work should still be saved in a tmp file. thats the good news.

the bad news is I can't remember where it would be, and the filename will be something like 34SCGJ343.tmp or something hideous like that.

when IT gets back, they should be able to help you find it.

It depends on just what app she was using to create the file. But in most apps I know of, if you close the (unsaved) file, and tell it "no" when it asks if you want to save, it'll usually get rid of any .tmp file, as well.

Some apps may keep the .tmp file around until you close the app -- so whatever you do, don't shut down the application! But even with it still open, I think your chances of recovering this are pretty slim.

but be nice to the hair ;) You love it so, would be a shame to leave tufts of it in your keyboard.

Well, I don't know where it keeps the tmp files, but may I suggest developing the nervous tic of hitting save every time you pause in your typing? It's served me quite well. :)
