Today on the F-line, a rastafarian with a brightly streamered walking stick was proselytizing to anyone and everyone who would listen -- and even those who wouldn't.

He was like a broken record, at once amusing and embarrassing for those of us who still have two brain cells to rub together and believe in the legalization of drugs. "Marijuana is coming out of the closet," he proclaimed after every stop. "Did you know that the American flag was made of marijuana? Marijuana is going to cure the world's problems!"

A couple got on the train with a young baby -- possibly old enough to toddle -- and the rastafarian continued his lackadaisical diatribe. I tried to focus on my all-important game of bejewelled but couldn't help but roll my eyes as a gentlemen indignantly told the rasta, "You shouldn't talk like that in front of children."

Their argument went back and forth a couple of times, neither saying anything new or original -- or logical -- and it made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. No matter what opinion you choose, there will always be people holding it who make you consider questioning your judgement. Which, I suppose, is why you should never judge an opinion by the person holding it, or the faulty arguments presented.

I'd like to believe that education, or the internet, or something will save the world, but I do fear that we are all stuck with each other in our own little purgatory called Earth.
