Woah.

So, although the confessional meme can be used by everyone as they please, it was meant so that people can confess their own problems, not praise or bash me or give me constructive criticism. The focus was meant to be on YOU not on me.

For instance, when [livejournal.com profile] jodymeme did it, one of the first confessions was from a kleptomaniac, who was dealing with a lot of angst for stealing from friends and loved ones, and was convinced they all must know and hate hir, etc.

Anyway. A lot of people have said some interesting things. Some have made me hurt. Some have puzzled me. Some have made me thoughtful. Some have made me shake my head and some have made me want to argue.

*shrug* Interestingly, I can't really make any decisions as to whether any of the constructive criticism is valid because I don't have context. For instance, those who believe that I'm self-centered... if they've interacted with me extensively in person or over IM, then that is accurate. If they've gathered that I'm self-centered by reading my journal, well yes. My journal is for my purposes. I mostly spend it to vent about my issues and to work them out and to process them. I occasionally use it to update people on my life, make plans, or network. But mostly, my journal is here for me to process MY issues. So if you've never or rarely had a real interaction with me in person, you might think I'm really self-centered.

Anyway, I'll stop there. I may try to respond to more of the posts.

Last night I bought dance shoes to replace the missing pairs. They are pretty... skin tone supadance with rhinestone buckles (which means they are adjustable, even in the toes!). I'm not too thrilled about the rhinestone buckles because they aren't the same kind of rhinestones as my dance costume, but you can't win 'em all. They may even fit better than any of my other pairs of shoes, which is a bonus.

I'm starting the BAMM course on Sunday with [livejournal.com profile] redhead33. Should be a lot of fun and maybe good exercise too. I'm totally psyched. I'm also thinking I'm going to start an Aikido class. Keep me busy, learn something new and nifty, and get exercise to boot.

So for the next five weeks:
Sunday BAMM 12:30-5:30
Tuesday Latin 7-8:30
Wed S&P
Thursday Aikido 6-7

When the BAMM course is over, I'll have Aikido from 5-6 on Sundays for another four weeks. Anyone want to take the Aikido class with me? It's only $75 for the 8 weeks of 2 hours/week.

This should be fun/good exercise! Yay!

Since we've sort of just closed the December issue, we're having a celebratory New Years lunch today. Conflicting reports debate how much it will cost; if it is our normal price, $4; otherwise, free.

  • Oysters from Hog Island, Fresh-shucked and Rockefeller
  • King Salmon
  • Grilled Niman Ranch Bavette
  • Primavera Salsa
  • Tabbouleh
  • Mixed Greens from TKO
  • Acme Breads
  • Cantina Terlan 2002 Pinot Grigio (Alto Adige)
  • Fiuggi Water
  • Iced Tea

*swoon* I love the cafeteria here.

Too much wine at work makes the [livejournal.com profile] questioner go "Wheeee!" and her brains go wooosh.

So how ARE you supposed to eat oysters? I used my fork in the privacy of my cubicle but I seem to recall something about slurping them out of shells. But are the shells clean??

And then there's the supposed aphrodiasical properties of oysters (is that a word?), which [livejournal.com profile] nytemuse tells me are myths. That's good, because I don't want to feel extra horny at work! That's just no good!

Speaking of which, talk about hard to motivate oneself to work, I'm having trouble motivating myself to do anything but lie down under my desk and take a nap. I think next time I'll drink the wine much more slowly. yupyup.

SHUTDOWN

My first thorough pitch (that I thought had a lot of substance) just got red lighted. Ah well. On to other things, I guess...

(for those who have heard, this is the one with the women's technologies)

On the positive side, I now know that the world does not come to an end if you get a story rejected. In fact, the editor was very clear that they want more pitches from me. Duh, I mean, I'm their intern. But still. It's helpful.

I'm considering visiting Boston in January, possibly for Arisia or the FFF or both. I'll be keeping my eyes open for esavers. I'm wondering who might offer me crash space?

Also, if [livejournal.com profile] unseelie gets any time off, I think we need to do a visit to Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver. This smells like a road trip to me, but we'll see. This one is further on the horizon because it depends on two people's schedules.

Any other places I should visit soon?
