The last few days have been impressively fabulous. Tuesday,
merovingian picked me up from work and drove me home. We looked at the furniture from that day, decided I didn't want it, and then had issues finding parking near food. Eventually we ended up at the Castro Safeway for the ATM, and then walked down the street and had unexpectedly good crepes at a restaurant called Crepevine. WAY better than Squat and Gobble, imo. Same price range.
At that point it was too late for him to get back to Union City for Buffy night there, so we went to my place and watched it, and he got to meet Kat. We were halfway through Smallville when ex housemates showed up with the carpet cleaner. They cleaned my room. Then we shifted all of my stuff from the living room into my room, and all the living room stuff into the kitchen while they cleaned Kat's new room. Then they cleaned the hallway and the living room. If we'd had the stamina, we then would have shifted Kat's stuff from her old room into her new room, and done the carpet in her old room too, but it just didn't happen.
Nonetheless, it was fabulous having Merovingian and Kat there to share in my glee as I made my bed and hung up the wall hanging Unseelie has lent me, and... yeah. It was a wonderful happy thing. I had to cleanse the room's energy and stretch before I went to sleep, but yeah. it was good. Yay!
Wednesday was weird. I spent the morning 'volunteering' for the 40th. The whole site was behaving oddly because of the anniversary. Had some buffet food. Punted/worked a little until 3:20, caught the shuttle to Palo Alto station. I bought a ticket, and then called
jrpseudonym to tell him I was running late. He said he could come pick me up. Oops. Useless ticket after all.
We went to Dana Street and said hi to Merovingian and his fellow GM. They left for a change of scenery, and we sat and chatted about all sorts of wonderful and interesting things, killing the time.
Sometime during this conversation, it occurred to me that I never did thank
bluedaisy properly for what she did for me. She is the one who went with me when I went home to tell Daniel that I was leaving for a week to think things over, and helped me pack some clothing and things. She did that wonderful thing for me. And I'd always meant to cook or buy her dinner, but never gotten around to it. And
now was my chance.
I met Bluedaisy at the train and said goodbye to Jrpseudonym. We went to the Bangkok Spoon, a thai restaurant in the area (only a block from the train station!). As we started to order, I started to tell Bluedaisy that dinner was on me. But then something dawned on me, and I changed what I said.
"Two years ago today, you did something wonderful for me. I've been meaning to thank you for a long time, and for that reason, I'd like to treat you to this dinner as a thank you. Order whatever you want."I hadn't realized it until that moment. But it was two years ago yesterday that I left Daniel, that Bluedaisy did this generous thing for me, something which couldn't have been easy for her. And she just happened to be visiting California. And she and I just happened to end up having dinner on October 2nd, of all of the days she was free.
Telling Kat about it later that night, I got goosebumps all over. There are accidents. This wasn't one of them. Thank you, Mother.
At the Caltrain station in SF, I had an odd conversation with a stranger while buying a muni ticket. "Are you scared of me because I'm a black man?"
"No." pause. "Should I be?"
"No, some women are scared of me because I'm black."
"Oh, well that's not a problem with me.:
"What's your name?"
*strange look**pause*"Questioner."
"Well, Questioner, would you maybe want to call me sometime?"
"Well, that would be a problem, since I have a boyfriend." *flee trainward* "Nice meeting you!"
Had it occurred to him that the fact that he tries to pick women up with no previous eye contact flirtation, no basis for common ground, etc, is what scares them? People are weird.
Today, I found furniture. For $60, two dressers, both not puny, one with a mirror, and a nightstand. I've seen the pictures... I have to drop off a deposit sometime tonight.
