It's a day

I'm still sick, but not as sick.

I've only had a can of soup, can of coke, and glass of orange juice today, so its definitely time for a big meal. Not sure what I want though...

I'm debating between saying, "screw unemployment" and doing temp work until I find a permanent job that covers my bills and doesn't suck too much, and sticking with the unemployment.

Because I can only make $25 before taxes per week before I start loosing chunks of unemployment benefits, and the moment I hit $183, I lose the benefits entirely, the absolute most I can get per week is $237 + $25-taxes. Also, as I begin to make more than $25/week at the rink, I will net have less than $237, because the $237 does not have taxes taken off of it to begin with, and the rink earnings do.

Questions I need to answer---maybe you have an idea?
-What percentage of my paycheck do I lose to taxes, etc.? 15%? 30%?
-5.90/hour after taxes is the equivalent hourly wage to my unemployment. How much is that per hour before taxes?
-Can I make more than $237/week, after taxes, temping and teaching skating?
Skating makes me somewhere between 10 and ?? /week before taxes. It varies from week to week, but I don't expect that to go higher than 25 or 30 anytime soon. It takes more time than I have to build a clientel. What I'm really asking here is how much money can I average temping.

Anyone who has done temp work have any idea about that?

Right. I go get food. Food makes a healthier, happier [livejournal.com profile] questioner.

Most of the folks I know who've been temping -- even experienced, great temps -- haven't been getting *any* temp work. I wouldn't go there. I highly recommend against pinning any hopes, and especially eating-type hopes, on temp work.

The theoretical rule is that (national, not state) taxes take out about a third of your wages (or, the government gets everything you earn until May from a typical working year). Obviously in jobs where you make less, you lose less in taxes. You still lose a goodly chink in taxes, though.

I loose about 1/3rd of my paycheck.

On pay of 2100 I get about 1400.

That means 5.90 an hour is basicly 4 bucks an hour.

As for the other question, I have no expertise in that area.

They pay you guardians of my safety and security a measly five ninety an hour? Jesus, no wonder y'all have been known to be a tad surly and perhaps not super genius efficient. I, personally, feel so much safer knowing that y'all are paid just above minimum wages. Really.

nonononono. Koga is misunderstanding me, and feyandstrange is misunderstanding Koga.

Koga:
The $237/week I get is untaxed to begin with. I can CHOOSE to have the taxes taken out of it and get even less of it, but that would be foolish. So for NOW, the $237/40 hours = $5.90, and from my point of view RIGHT NOW, that is the same as the after tax wage I'd be getting at some random job.

Feyandstrange:
The 5.90 is my $237/40 hours, not Koga's pay. Koga gets considerably more money than that.

well, thank goodness they pay Koga more than that!

Somewhere on the IRS site there is a doohickie which lets you put in your salary and estimate how many exemptions you should take so as to get most of your money now. That might help. Higher exemptions often do.

Actualy, they pay me 16.88 an hour.

Minus 1.5 percent of net for union,
Minus 46 bucks a paycheck for parking,
Minus 2 bucks a day for bridge,
Minus 30 dollars a week for Petrol,

So, on 40 hours a week, I make 675. Minus the above, I'm making about 600, Minus taxes, about 400. My rent, is 1000. This creates a problem.

Koga!

Unemployment depends on how much you were making before. I think it add up to 9 dollars per hour if you worked 40 hours a week. I have had some luck with scientific temp work. I am probably going to be doing that again in February. Call me and I will give you that name and number of the person that I am working through.

my $.02

I have made, in the last year, 15-17/hr temping. and that's as a receptionist. and I have never been out of work for longer than I wanted to be. on short term assignments, I usually worked at least three days a week (even if it was three different companies).
I don't know what kind of experience you have as an Admin.. but *shrug*
I worked full time 40/hr weeks for six years (not counting time off with babies) and this is the first time I've been employed by the company rather than through an agency.. and I got this job temping.
*shrug*
agencies don't cost anything (one that does is not legal - run the other way)
sign up with two or three or four, or more.
