Incoming: Ottawa and Montreal
Apr. 5th, 2007 12:40 pmRight. So the Wolf, Spryte and I are incoming to Ottawa, with the possibility of a side trip to Montreal.
We'll be arriving sometime mid to late afternoon Friday, and leaving sometime Monday.
What's happening in the area?
Anyone want to get together? Maybe there could be a geeky board game gathering!
iclysdale, I know you expressed interest.
Also, if I want to see Ottawa, not from the pov of a tourist, but from the pov of a person living there, which places would be good to visit, do some alterna-shopping, etc.? Where is the queer part of town, for instance?
Squee, and yay!

Date: 2007-04-05 05:15 pm (UTC)con_girl is hosting a geeky board game gathering at her place (where I expect you will be) on Saturday starting at 1pm. I intend to be there for the gaming. I think gabriel_le intends to be as well.
Ottawa doesn't really have much of a queer part of town. No, really. There's about one block of Bank street that has a couple of queer oriented stores on it, and that's it. Yes, really. Podunk-ville compared to T.O.
A bunch of us are going hiking on Sunday (organised by iclysdale), meeting at his place at 11am. Probably hit the gatineaus, but not finalized.
Dunno what else to suggest.

Date: 2007-04-05 05:30 pm (UTC)Consignment Shop (that might be its name, on Bank in the Blue Heron mall) not alterna but good all the same.
Not sure if you have Zone. It is in the market (good euro design for kitchen and other house stuff)
A walk through the Market building is enjoyed by both locals and tourists.
Antiques are great along Bank after Sunnyside
Value village used to have a sale first Saturday of the month. Used clothing and junk - can be fun but a bit of a zoo.
There is the goth shop in the Rideau but it rarely carries anything human sized except in the boy clothing and is expensive.
Good books (new) at Perfect Books on Elgin
Nice shopping on Dalhousie (used bookstores, jewelry, new age stuff, Stubbe's chocolates).
However, remember that there is no shopping on SUNDAY in many stores because of the holiday.
I have a bit of a reputation as the shopper of the group here but really, I am not much of one.
