coder wanted?
Dec. 7th, 2006 09:47 amShort version
How much per hour would a coder who knows XML and Javascript cost, approximately (please state the currency in which you are quoting)? I will not take this number as your rate, but more as the going rate on the market.
And, anyone interested in a project? Email me or give me your email addy ASAP if you're interested. Some degree of preference will probably be given to Canadians/Ontarians/Torontonians.
Long version
So my workplace is talking about submitting a proposal to a large corporation to create some e-learning content. Problem is that the corporation wants us to use a new standard created by the US government called SCORM.
Like HTML, Web 3.0, etc., SCORM is a tagging system designed to provide specifications and tags so that any Learning Management System (equivalent to a browser)(LMS) can present any content (equivalent to a webpage).
I believe that SCORM is an adaptation of XML, although I know it uses some Javascript to pass information back and forth between the LMS and the content.
The corporation already has an LMS (provided by IntraLearn). They want properly tagged content. We can conceive and write the content, but the actual tagging and coding is beyond our capability in-house, at the moment.
The proposal is due tomorrow, so we need to come up with some estimate of project cost if we outsource the coding. The actual project they want done by Feb/March 2007. If you're interested, email me or give me your email address.

Date: 2006-12-07 11:08 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if we would hire someone from outside the country or not. And, while we might look into this in the future, right now it's looking like we will not be outsourcing the coding because of the tight deadline.
As far as vagueness, you know almost as much as we do. It's going to be some kind of training thingymabobbin that teaches managers how to handle rebate pricing using their algorithms and methods. It will test knowledge throughout in an interactive fashion, testing them at the end. There will be no video or audio component.
And now you know about as much as we do.

Date: 2006-12-07 11:42 pm (UTC)Your price range is going to look like anything from $12/h to $150/h (CAD). Finding someone of the right qualification level is important - low-level grunts cost a tenth as much as the really good people but will take 30 times as much labor to deliver on a complex project, if they're even capable of delivering at all, but high-level people will get quite bored designing webpages.
Tagging of content sounds straightforward, but the data exchange component may not be. I'm not familiar with SCORM, so I can't say for sure what level of expertise you're looking for.
