Not only do I have stabbing pains (mostly in the breasts), but I also have developed an abnormally large number of painful canker sores in my mouth. This supports the theory that I'm just not getting my vitamins.

So. Right.

If you are dieting, take your fucking vitamins!.

Canker sores are linked to a lack of Vitamin C, Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), pyridoxine (B6), and iron.
Stabbing pains are linked with a lack of Vitamin E and B6.

According to the site on which I track the food I eat, over the last two weeks I've had:
105.99% RDA Vitamin E
158.75% RDA Vitamin C
68.84% RDA Thiamin
117.57% RDA Riboflavin
82.83% RDA Vitamin B6

I'm also severely lacking in Vitamin D, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Iron, Calcium, and Folate.

In other news, I've been highly productive lately. Yay!

Yeah ...

When I was severely dieting, I made sure to take all my vitamins, and to try to get vitamins in what I was eating as well. Ironically, I dieted in such a way that I got most, if not all, of my vitamins through my food, but when I eat crappily (like lately), I don't.

Vitamin E is fat-soluble. You need at least a little fat in the food you take it with or it won't be digested.

True, but my fat intake isn't that low. Over the last two weeks, I've averaged about 65 g of fat and 16 grams of saturated fat. That's 34% of my calories coming from fat. Do you think that would really make it difficult for my body to absorb my vitamin E?

That should be plenty, but are you taking it at the right time?

This is from memory, but the fat and the vitamin need to be in the small intestine at the same time. I think you've got a three hour window.

hmm, yes, I see the problem. The answer is, "I don't know." Some of my meals are low fat or even fat free. Others are medium or even high fat. They vary. I guess the trick is to make sure there's some fat in a meal that contains a food with vitamin E in it.

Canker sores can also arise from poor digestion or upset stomach. Nervousness can enhance this. A change in diet can also do it.
