I'm going to buy a headset for user for VoIP/skype tomorrow.

I'm looking at a number of options.

I'd PREFER to find something that can handle high quality recordings, while simultaneously being portable... The closest I've found is the $98 Plantronics foldable headphone w/ mic boom. But, it has a volume controller that almost doubles its folded size, and some reports indicate that it doesn't have good enough sound quality for voice recognition. That's a lot to pay for something that isn't quite up to spec!

I guess I could go with a non-portable option, like a basic microphone. But that seems really less than ideal as well.

What do you guys do for sound/audio solutions? Do you use normal headphones + a microphone? Do you use a headset? In either case, which brand/model do you have, and how do you like it?

Thanks in advance!

Listening Concepts CD110VM is what I use. Folding, on-ear ones, with flexible boom microphone and a on-cord volume control. They're not astounding, but are very inexpensive. They're about US$17-20.

I've been using my cellphone headsets with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter/splitter from Radio Shack($5?). I generally like Jabra headsets for sound quality and decent mic.

The current one I have is 2 ear pieces(stereo) + mic. Unfortunately the radioshack adapter is only for 1 ear + mic, so I can't fully use it as a all-in-one for listening to music on cellphone, headset for cellphone, listening to music on laptop, headset/skype on laptop. But the set up works for 3 of the 4 cases, so it ain't bad.
