Date: 2006-10-02 10:43 pm (UTC)Despite many calls along the way, my father couldn't get a hold of this person. No answer at all. My father tried getting a last minute room but everything was booked due to the beginning of the school year.
Finally, we went to the friend's house and knocked on the door in desperation. No answer - however the door was open. So, in we went. The house was empty but there was a phone number for the friend's pager. So, we called and left the number for the house.
Soon a call came back. It was the friend's son. Apparently the parent was out of town and he was at the local bar. My father took many attempts to convince the son that we're not going to steal anything (we were in the house alone), that he indeed knew my father, and if we could spend the night.
"Hi... we're calling from you're parents house... no... we're alone here... anyways, I'm not sure if you remember me... but can we spend the night?"
The son in question came home to check on us... two hours later. (Talk about odd.) He took one look at my dad, said "I remember you" and stumbled up to bed drunk.
We left early the next morning.
One of the oddest moments in my life.
