Questioner: *nods* it's a shame, because I don't believe I'm being immodest when I say that I'm GOOD. I am a very good stripper. I am a very good erotic dancer.
Questioner: But by the measures strip clubs use, I'm not what they want.
DivineSeduction: *nods* True. Unfortunately.
Questioner: Maybe that's my mission in life. Start a strip club that doesn't suck.
DivineSeduction: That... actually could be very cool.
Questioner: yes. A once a week event. The strip club for freaks and geeks and such.
Divine Seduction: more like a fetish strip club...

I'm actually serious about this. Geek culture here is huge, and geeks appreciate quality, intelligence, and a wide variety of types of beauty. I think there might actually be a market for something like this. Such a strip club would accept dancers who were 'overweight' if they were good. Bios for the dancers might be available at the tables to show that they are intelligent. Sort of like... the high priced call girls of stripping.

And so, a poll.

Since I live in New Mexico, if you did this in San Francisco I would not be able to visit often or dance for you, but take my poll answers as my interest in doing both if I was living in San Fran! And if you were interested in having "guest dancers" I would love to do such a thing while out visiting Unseelie (whenever that occurs). I think this is a great idea, and from what I know of San Fran, it seems like the kind of city that would be able to support such a venture.

Such doings are always complex, and often hard to get started (finding financial backers, venue, etc.) but dammit, don't let that stop you!

I really hope you make a go of it, that would rock.

Oh and hi. :) From what I have heard from Mr. Unseelie I'm awfully glad you're in his life and I look forward to meeting you at some point.

This idea got batted around my friends a few times, and it wouldn't be hard to find dancers for it. What *would* be hard is dealing with the city laws on such things. Just opening a club around here - or throwing a sex party - is hard enough. Actually getting a repeating license for a strip club that doesn't cater to tourists sounds to me, unfortunately, like a nightmare of legal wrangling, paperwork, and ugliness.

Check out jwz's extensive info (http://www.dnalounge.com/backstage/permits-index.html) on the legal hoops and wrangles he had to go through to re-open the DNA Lounge. And the DNA doesn't even do sex! Talk to people who've worked the local strip clubs (dancers, bouncers, whatevers), who've helped throw events (sex-related preferable), and get the full dirt.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, hon, but it's a great idea that would take a freakin' miracle and a ridiculous amount of money, and probably a new mayor, to pull off.

Well, here's my take on it. I never go to strip clubs. The girls are.. just not my type. I dont need a woman with 1500ccs of saline in her tits and plasticy skin dancing in front of me begging for money. Its just not arousing. Its not even all that fun to look at, even if she *is* naked. I prefer to play pool.
Now, find me a club where the girls are more my type.. (I kind of dig slim/petite/flatchested girls... well, more than kind of), or where even if not *specifially* my type, are natural and comfortable with themselves... and I just might show up. Or even offer a hand with the place. I need some kind of work, and I'm willing to do just about anything if its with cool people.

Now, a few suggestions. First, this might sound a bit wierd, but make it a 'juice' bar, no drinks. Where I'm from, up north, all the strip joints are like that. They still make money, things dont get out of hand, its a much cooler environment, *nd* you dont have to worry about liqor lisences, underage drinkers, people getting drunk and causing shit and the cops showing up... I mean I understand people want to drink, but for getting on its feet, no-alcahol might help things. *shrug*

Another thing, if the place gets up and running... get girls that actually *strip*, not just come out in a see through bikini and dance around and take thier top off. Booooooriiiiing! I mean, the whole male-arousal thing works off off consealment. Start with a bit more, and the audience will dig it more.... more anticipation, more tension, more realism. I mean how many of you girls who've stripped for your BF started off 90% naked? Its just not as fun.

Anyways, those are my male observations. lol

Unfortunately, most people go out to thee clubs and thee like here to drink and socialize.

But some sort of private club would work, something with a fetish / goth/ rivethead dress code usually keeps out the gangbangers and other such riffraff.

Rather than descriminating against them outright, you just charge them at least two or three times the cover at the door if they are out of uniform, which has worked very well in thee past at other clubs.

Also, Amsterdam does not allow photography or video inside their bdsm clubs to protect client & performer privacy as well as mutual respect for all parties involved.
One of the reasons they have had such a strong bdsm club scene for so long.
Photographers & film-makers must get written consent from the club owners beforehand, and signs are posted that there will be a camera present outside the club on the night in question.

Membership cards are also a good idea.

weekly?

Heya,

I like the idea, but I suspect it would work better if you had it, say, monthly rather than weekly. It can be hard to get critical mass for repeating events every week. If it's once a month, people are more likely to plan their schedules around it (though it misses folks who can't make that particular day).

And I agree that doing it officially would be a pain in the ass, but it could probably start as a private party if you find an appropriate venue.

Does California's anti-smoking law cover things like that?

Do you think i'm a nasty girl?

I think you mean something with a format similar to a gentleman's club to a strip club.
I have friends down in LA that perform at normal strip clubs, but they do it to Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, etc..

Usually when you strip,
(a) you bring in your own music, and the deejay just plays it, usually in the order you want it
(b) you submit it to the deejay for approval beforehand, or
(c) the deejay spins two songs of his / her choice and you dance to one song of your choice,
but it depends on what the club has set up.

Also, I believe all your dancers have to be licensed, too, in the city / district they are dancing in.
It depends on the area.
You'd have to do the research.

I've never deejayed a strip club or fetish before, just goth and industrial ones, would be interesting, yep yep.

I wonder if there's an existing club that normally isn't open 7 days a week, and if you could start out renting their building once a week or once a month.

If the strippers have to be licensed, look into what it really takes to get the license, and see what can be done to streamline the process of getting licenses.

Having a wide variety of body types and people who genuinely enjoy what they're doing is probably very much a good idea. Different people like different body types, and I have my doubts that there is any body type that nobody likes. And the right personality seems to be capable of making me like any body type it might happen to be attached to.

There's certainly something disappointing about looking at porn and seeing an expression on the face that's not all that happy. It sounds like this is some of the sort of problem space you're trying to deal with...

Usually it just means going down to city hall and paying $10, to get licensed, haha.
There was a club down in orange county that was out of a strip club.
If anyone unlicensed got onstage to dance, thee venue could get fined or shutdown, so in order to dance on thee stage, a bunch of people took a field trip to city hall, mostly so they could have decent dance floor space designated for them.
