Oh, Ibuprofen, how do I love thee?

Let me count the ways.

For one restful night, eight hours entire of solace from pain, I give thee homage.
For one knee, and another, that does not ache in pain, that does not throb forth with fury and then ebb sans-remorse, I would declare they glory from the confines of my lumpy bed.
Each vertebrae for which the aches fall away, I owe to you and your efficacy.

And those days of the month when I double in pain, then too, you rescue me, the knight to my maidenly plight.

If only you did not hate me and my kind, silently gnawing on our stomachs, bringing unending hunger and ulceration bright and pained. Then would we consume thee for all our days.

Where's the bloody tornado? My knees should NOT be aching this much.

Also, although my own personal santa claus turned out to not exist, a contributing editor from a similarly high ranking magazine comforted me over email, saying that he's heard nothing but good about this magazine, and although things didn't go fabulously in this case, that I shouldn't give up on them.

Another likened my experience to Dorothy finding out the truth about the Wizard of Oz. Some favourite quotes from her?

First, don't worry that you "made trouble" of a kind that will keep any editor with a
brain from employing you again. Jayson Blair "made trouble," but a writer who politely asked for more money? Fogeddaboudit. That's so ordinary that it doesn't count. If they like your work, they'll be happy to underpay you again and again.

"But, I also think you might want to give some thought to the last sentence in
your paragraph. You're upset that you may not have another chance to feel
mistreated and cheated by someone you used to admire? Is this an experience
you really want to repeat in the near future? (Not to mention the fact that
any freelance career provides more than ample opportunity to experience these
feelings, even without working for these people.)"

I like this person! Wonderful dry wit!

In case anyone was wondering, I'm going to sign the contract and send it in. And if they ever pick up another story by me, I'll just be super aggressive about renegotiating contracts. If my stories regularly end up coming in at less money than similar markets, then I'll just stop pitching to them, or at least, to this particular editor. There are other fish in the sea, but this one has multiple personalities. Umn. That was a bad metaphor, which means its bed time.

But not before I share that I finished the main knitting of my iPod cover today! Yay! Now I have to cut all the extra threads hanging across the gaps, tie them off and thread them in, sew on a button, and shore up some of the parts I want to hold a certain shape. Yay! I can't wait until I'm done and can take and post a picture for you guys to see. :) I'm not going to post the pattern unless people ask though, since I need to look at other knitting patterns and translate it into real knitting language as opposed to my own, um, bastardization.
