I'm ready to make a new icon for myself, but I don't know how to do it!
Specifically, I want this icon to cycle through two pictures. Anyone able to point me towards a helpful resources? I'm sorry if I've already asked this.
I've always used Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop to do this. Basically, an animated GIF file is several images, shown with a delay between them. You set up the pictures using The Image Program What You Love, and then bring them both into a GIF animator, arrange them in the order you want and set the delay.
It's pretty easy, assuming you've got the tools to do it. If you don't feel up to it, you're welcome to email me the separate pics and I'll throw them together for you.
I did this one (http://www.livejournal.com/userpic/18048956/532471) for an ex-girlfriend of mine. It still makes me chuckle.
If you have a Linux or Unix box to do this on, you can google for something called “gifsicle” to assemble the frames. I think gifsicle only supports a fixed delay between frames, though (not ”show this frame for two seconds, then show this frame for half a second, then show this frame for four seconds”).
I use Adobe Imageready, which is bundled with Photoshop. I'm sure there are plenty of free programs, I'd google for "free + gif + program" or something.
