Slept for three hours. Awake for nearly that long. Soon, sleep again. I'm a piggy when I'm sick. I'm also way sicker than I thought I was. Lots and lots of sleep and rest tonight and tomorrow.

CAR
I have between 1 and 3 months before I get my license, depending on how things work out!

I've been vaguely entertaining the concept of getting a pickup truck when I do buy, so that I can transport furniture from garage sales. This may be silly, or perhaps it is imminently practical — I'm not sure. The other idea is to go for something that is super fuel efficient. I'll probably buy something from between 98 and 03 depending on price and my own savings.

SEWING
I really want to learn to sew, I've decided. I'm even thinking of trying to make The Little One's flower girl dress for the 27th of May. She's a toddler. I suspect it would be easy, but I'm not sure. I suspect it depends on the fabrics used.

Advice about choosing a sewing machine would be appreciated.

Advice about learning to sew would ALSO be appreciated. Some friends are considering taking a sewing class together. I'm not entirely sure that's necessary... hard to say. I remember some of my sewing lessons from Middle School...

*cough hack wince at sore throat* Ugh. Sleep soon.

Sewing itself isn't too difficult (though I'm still definitely at the beginner level). I find that the two most difficult parts are adjusting the thread to the proper tension for the material, and making heads or tails from patterns (though, honestly, I've never tried to use patterns.. I always just wing my costume designs :P).

As for sewing machines, there is a store on Ottawa St. that often sells floor-models very cheaply. I believe they're called Nova Sewing. My friend recently purchased one from them, and he is very happy with it. :)

Anyway, best of luck in your sewing endeavours, and I hope that you feel better soon!

Oh, and my friend bought a pick-up truck with the same concept in mind. Trick is, for the number of times he used it and the extra gas it uses because it's a car and not a truck, he could have easily rented a truck many times over.

I loved the sewing portion of Home Ec. in middle school. I still remember the basics, I bet a lot of it will come back with practice!
Get lots of rest today! I won't be able to hang out, though, dummy me I forgot it's Mother's Day, and I'm going to visit my parents to give gifts and talk weddings and hunt through her vast ribbon and craft supply at her behest.
There's a good chance that most of the nights this week will be good for hanging out! I've had a temporary schedule change, and it means I'm done work sooner than usual on Tues and Thurs (this could all change tomorrow, of course).
Rest and fluids and chicken soup and cough syrup! Not all at the same time, though. Eww.. :)

I recommend against the truck. They're pretty impractical for everyday use, especially since manufacturers have pretty much stopped making small, fuel-efficent trucks in favor of Big Manly Things. My father recently tripped over this problem when he wanted to replace his aged tiny Toyota truck ('91 or so, with about 300,000 miles on it), which he uses both for hauling (grapes, furniture in his landlord activites, construction materials, whatever) and for commuting to his job(s). He wanted another small truck, but they basically don't exist.
