Note that in general, dollars here are in Canadian.

I need a new winter coat. There were some at a store we went to today by Sierra Designs. I don't remember which "model" though, so I have no idea if they were a good deal. One was insulated, and the other was a two-layer zip in which can be worn separately. $280 and $390 respectively, minus 25%.

Deep down inside what I really want is an MEC coat, though, and they are in the same price range according to their website, so I'm going to try to check them out tomorrow or Saturday.

My small wheelie carry-on has been broken for a while, and ought to be replaced.
My large wheelie suitcase got left behind in SF because shipping it would be more expensive than buying a new one.
My large MEC backpack has a broken waist strap and the waterproof lining is shedding all over everything. Also, when used full, I start having back problems -- this could be because of the broken waist strap, or it could be because I have a bad back and large breasts and can't carry that much weight on my back, in which case I need a wheelie backpack.

Bentleys at Jackson Square has a deal, buy one get one free. I can get a carry on and a large wheelie suitcase for $45. I didn't go for it for some reason... I guess I had this sense that I should be looking for a better deal, or not spending money, or something. Why is that stopping me now when I've been so spendthrift in the past?

My grandfather had a crappy wheelie backpack which is smaller than my existing MEC one, but doesn't have its issues. I can make do for now. Bentleys had a really nice wheelie backpack for $40, but I'm not in a rush.

Banks. Banks suck. Even, they sux0r. I'm debating between ScotiaBank and Bank of Montreal. They all have fees now, although if I do go back to school the fees will go away.

I've narrowed down my choice of cellphone company to Telus. I think I just like them as a company more, and their ratings on my unscientific poll on the toronto community clearly placed them at the top. They also use CDMA, which is a superior technology according to my research.

But now I need to decide what I want in a plan, and that's hard. I mean, I'm pretty sure that I never made full use of all the nifties I had on my Sprint phone. Maybe now is the time to cut down. Do I want data? If I do, how much do I need? Do I need text messaging? How about unlimited local nights and weekends? How many minutes do I really need? How much time will I spend in the US, and do I need to be able to call places from there? If I have call-forwarding, I could always get a temporary cellphone for use there and forward calls to it. I think.

And then, of course, what phone do I get? They don't have the Treo on their network, but they do have the Kyocera 7135. Or I could go down a notch to a plain, boring cellphone. It certainly would be cheaper!

Oh, and I'm trying to buy plane tickets to Arisia. I could get them now for $150 US out of Buffalo, or I can wait and hope for a better deal. But if I wait, it might go UP! It's already gone up once (from 100 pretax etc. to 137 US).

Please feel free to give me your own two cents, although I reserve the right to ignore it. :)

If you have a car available, you could drive instead of flying; it's about a 9 hour drive from Hamilton (take the QEW to 405 to the border, then 190 to 290 to 90 which goes all the way into Boston). Whether that is cheaper or not depends on how much you care about running up miles on your car; it's likely to be under $80 US in gas if you get good mileage.

You might also want to look into online banking. I'm not sure how they interact with Canadian ATMs, but I've had good luck with www.netbank.com and they have essentially no fees (I've never paid them for anything but bouncing a check), and I've heard good things about several of the other online banks.

I'm definitely looking at online banking... Hopefully that will work out for me.

As far as driving to Arisia, its a no go. I don't have the driving experience to drive that far in snowy weather. I haven't driven consistently in a year, and never in snow, and I've never even assisted on a road trip.
